Management Accountant - Energy Sector

What does the job entail?
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be involved in everything from day to day double entry on the general ledger and financial admin, to assisting external auditors, and working with the business teams on budget control, cost tracking and forecasting. We are ideally looking for an experienced accountant, who has worked in a fast-paced high growth energy/finance sector. You will need to be proactive, flexible and able to adapt your approach to your work, and willing to take on project specific and ad hoc tasks as required. You will be a quick learner, and will assume responsibility for many day-to-day accounting and reporting matters. Experience of working with PowerBI and advanced excel are desired.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Preparing and posting accruals, amortization and other journals and validating reporting required to complete our month end close process in an accurate and timeline manner
• Responsible for preparing regular reporting to the business including the monthly management accounts and budget holder spend reports
• Preparing and producing monthly balance sheet reporting and reconciliations and resolving differences
• Support the forecasting process, owning coordination of inputs, managing our models and producing insight into movements between forecasts and previous results
• Driving the end to end automation of the gas reporting process, with the support of a PowerBI developer
• Attend management and project meetings to ensure financial implications of decisions are considered
• Generate value in the business by finding opportunities to deliver profit, providing support to managers across the business, increasing efficiencies & finding cost savings • Assisting and supporting with the year end audit
• Support in developing our business partnering including driving analysis and insight to deliver customer level P&L to support growth
• Other ad hoc tasks as required
• Focus on personal development through training, constant learning within the role and increase in business knowledge
• Very positive work attitude including willing to work some longer hours during peak periods;
Skills & Experience:
• Proven experience within the UK Energy Industry in a similar role is essential.
• CIMA / CA / ACCA qualified
• Strong numerical ability and high attention to detail;
• Ability to work to tight deadlines;
• Ability to think laterally and problem solve;
• Finance / accounting degree with excellent academic results; and
• Experience in banking & finance or energy industries is preferable.
• Very positive work attitude including willing to work some longer hours during peak periods
