Regional HR Manager

Dalton Recruitment has been instructed by one it’s key clients to secure the services of an experienced, operationally hands-on Regional HR Manager to join the team delivering the HR service to the 3000 strong (primarily blue collar) workforce across its 6 sites in the South East&London. The business provides outsourced services employing around 7000 people across the UK. The employees work in complex 3 shift patterns with operations running 24/7. It is not a heavily unionised busines although there is pocketed union membership so experience in this area would be useful but not essential.
What is required is someone with a strong HR generalist skillset who is happy turning their hand to most areas including recruitment, administration, full spectrum employee relations, stakeholder management skills across the operations, good understanding to workforce management in a blue-collar environment, ability to manage the people element of business change projects.
There are 3 sites in SW&SE London and 3 in Kent/London border. The role will require regular travel to the sites but with the ability to work from home as workload allows. Sites are accessible by public transport while driving is more convenient. Given the site locations, someone based on SE London would be ideal. This is a true HR generalist’s role, working closely with the Regional Business Partner who in turn reports to the Group HRD.
Responsibilities to Include:
Setting up new HR systems and processes which are fit for purpose, in order to enable a self-service culture amongst the management community.
Providing advice and guidance on the PDR process, disciplinary/grievance, performance management, absence management etc.
Train, motivate, monitor and coach the production and site admin team to ensure HR Operational Excellence is achieved and compliance with UK employment law.
Empower staff to take personal responsibility for all complex HR cases and ensuring that all necessary actions are taken in response to requests, ensuring that this is done within agreed timescales seeking advice and guidance from in house legal counsel where appropriate.
Provide leadership and direction to the General Manager and Production team to ensure HR Operational Excellence is achieved and maintained.
Empower, Coach, motivate and support Managers and administration staff at all times, in order for them to make people decisions in line with the HR policies and procedures.
Continuously encourage and develop teamwork, actively promoting cross-functional co-operation.
Run feedback and debriefing sessions to identify common operational issues and identify opportunities to improve policies processes and procedures.
Interact with the payroll team and other internal stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met.
Interact with senior management effectively in order to develop effective people plans.
Co-operate and communicate with own and other departments and colleagues as appropriate.
Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics.
Generate reports as required and analyse reports/make recommendations on people trends and improvements to achieve and enhance HR Operational Excellence.
Constantly seek out opportunities to improve systems and procedures.
Project management and change management.
Implement and manage consultation process in relation to transformation projects such as annualised hours, shift changes, harmonisation and changes to terms and conditions.
Manage and control all employee engagement activities in relation to allocated regions.
Manage and foster good relationships effectively with Trade Unions and developing partnership working initiatives locally.
Ensure efficiencies are achieved through pragmatic solutions and working in conjunction with the HR community across other regions.
Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) targets are achieved.
Proactively promote consistent compliance to Berendsen’s HR policies and procedures.
Key Skills&Experience to be Considered:
Proven working experience as HR manager or other HR Business Partner
Experience of working in a blue collar environment
People oriented and results driven
Experience of influencing senior leaders
Demonstrable experience with human resources metrics
Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
In-depth knowledge of UK employment Law and HR best practices, and the ability to explain this in 'Plain English’ to various stakeholders.
Experience of working within a highly focused environment.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Ability to develop effective working relationships across all levels of management and external stakeholders e.g Trade Unions.
Excellent Organisational and planning skills
Ability to make decisions independently.
Advanced Microsoft office skills
Ability to deliver quality results under pressure
Flexibility to work unsocial hours
