General Description:
Under limited supervision, produces special computer images to aid the medical staff in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional photographs of patient’s body for diagnostic purposes
  • Applies the physics of MRI to assist the Radiologist in diagnosis
  • Informs patient of the procedure and ensures patient understands the importance of removing metal objects before activating the magnet
  • Positions and immobilizes patient
  • Sets up any supportive devices necessary to obtain precise positioning
  • Responsible for entering technical data into the computer
  • Evaluates images to ensure technical quality
  • Serves as resource person for hospital and medical staff
  • Serves as a preceptor, or educational resource, for new employees and for those seeking registry

General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Associate’s degree or higher, preferred Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited educational program with emphasis in a primary cardiovascular or radiologic technology specialty as defined by the ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI.

Experience: One (1) year full-time experience as a certified or registered cardiovascular or radiologic technology professional in the specialty preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required upon hire. MRI credentials required by the hiring department must be current upon hire or advancement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge of the techniques of diagnostic radiology.  Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of radiographic equipment. Knowledge of the physics of MRI and ability to apply the physics to aid the Radiologist in diagnosis.  Ability to prioritize assignments.  Ability to assess, treat and care for patients of varying agesGood interpersonal skills.  Ability to communicate technical information in such a way that a patient can understand the procedure and what is expected of them. Ability to communicate effectively with Radiologists, physicians and other hospital staff. Good computer skills.
