Prep Cook

The Prep Cook assists Cooks in the preparation and service of menu items. Depending on the campus location, this position may report to the Executive Chef or the Assistant Director of Culinary Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains sanitation and safety standards. Follows standardized recipes menus and diets
  2. Prepares production list items according to portion control and as indicated by the menu.
  3. Assists cook as needed and serves at the steam table assuring portion control guidelines are met.
  4. Stocks and rotates product deliveries. Keeps walk-in refrigerator clean and organized.
  5. Prepares beverages daily and maintains juice machine.
  6. Other duties as assigned (Operates and cleans kitchen equipment using clean as you go practice; reports needs, problems and changes to Supervisor; attends food service meetings and in-service trainings, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education Background

  1. No Education Background for this position.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

  1. Current State of Washington Food Handler's Permit.

Special Training/Skills

  1. Knowledge of cooking terms, measurements and methods.
  2. Understanding and knowledge of nutrition and diet and related procedures.
  3. Knowledge of and practicing sanitation, cleanliness and personal hygiene.
  4. Basic computer skills needed.
  5. Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  6. Pleasant demeanor, including good communication skills and cooperative attitude when working with staff and residents.
  7. Maturity and sensitivity toward employees, residents, visitors and guests.
  8. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and efficiently.
  9. Demonstrated ability to be patience, flexible and adaptable.
  10. Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all customers.

Work Experience

  1. Previous experience required.

Physical Demands

  1. Able to adjust to frequent temperature changes when entering/exiting refrigerators and freezers.
  2. Able to work on ones feet for long periods.
  3. Able to bend, squat and reach numerous times daily.
  4. Able to lift and carry 50 pound on a regular basis.
  5. Able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as necessary.
  6. Understand there is a possibility of cuts, burns and falls in light of good safety measures.
  7. Able to push carts.
