Job Details

Job Summary:

The Lead Estimator is responsible for projecting and controlling construction costs by collecting and studying information, including blueprints, specifications, proposals to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects and services

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning
Prepares budget and estimates by studying plans
Select vendors or subcontractor by determining cost effectiveness
Budgets
Identify and project cost for each phase of work.
Computes cost factors and prepares estimates for management purposes, including planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
Prepare bids
Estimating
Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard cost data
Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates
Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating
Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for discrepancies
Consultation
Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement
Education and/or Experience

A high school diploma or GED. Associates’ degree or higher is preferred. 2-3 years experience in a construction environment or equivalent.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Construction/Estimating software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
