Wind Turbine Technician

NGC Transmission Equipment (America) Inc. is a subsidiary of a multi-national gearbox manufacturer (NGC Gears) and is based in Fort Worth, TX.

NGC is looking to hire Wind Gearbox Traveling Tech to be based in their own residency area without relocation to Fort Worth, TX.

Job Type: Full-time Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour


SUMMARY:

The Field Service Department is responsible for technical and field support and communications between NGC US and its customers. The main focus will be building (and refining) a team to manage and support warranty claims for the wind gear drive business. Later, the scope may evolve to include warranty support for the industrial business. The Field Service Department plays an integral role in the organization by supporting all facets of the business.

EMPLOYEE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs wind turbine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repairs. (main, pitch, and yaw gearboxes)
  • Assists with removal and installation of wind turbine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
  • Interface closely with the NGC Field Service Coordinator.
  • Completes the required reports and other paperwork, most of which require computer entry.
  • Maintains adherence to Company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Maintains proper care of Company tools and vehicles.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn advanced troubleshooting and repair on NGC products.
  • Experience with GE 1.5-1.7, Vestas, Gamesa, and Siemens.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and work procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow customary instructions in order to perform the essential functions of the position in a satisfactory manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, given proper instructions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • The employee must be of sound body and mind.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; particulate matter, and outside weather conditions. The employee can be exposed to risks of electrical and mechanical hazards. The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must be capable of rescuing teammates anywhere in the tower in the event of an emergency with proper training.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (hot and cold).
  • Has the ability to climb and work atop freestanding wind turbine towers that exceed 300 feet in height and potentially do this multiple times per day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate should have a strong mechanical background, specifically gearing-related.
  • Must have a customer service-focused attitude and excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft® Office, ERP, CRM, and other internal programs.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Knowledge in a Mechanical and Electrical Trade is strongly preferred.
  • An associate's degree in Wind Turbine Technology is a plus but not required.
  • GE 1.5-1.7 plus ESS certificate is a plus but not required.
  • Bilingual (English-Mandarin) is a plus but not required.
