Safety Technician

Overview:

This is an entry level position.

Perform technical duties in programs related to industrial hygiene, environmental issues, health issues, fire protection engineering, biological safety, radiological health, and/or closely related EHS areas. Performs technical work under the supervision of SES Staff and supports the implementation and evaluation of programs designed to minimize risks to people and the environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with hazard evaluations in the workplace
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure they follow safety standards, corporate governance policies/procedures and government regulations
  • Collect samples of various types of materials for hazard analysis
  • Work with SES Staff to mitigate hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment
  • Under direction of the SES manager, evaluate programs on workplace safety and health
  • Provide employee training on various workplace safety issues; demonstrate and provide training on the correct use of safety equipment
  • Inform SES Staff of observed or reported workplace safety concerns
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to identify what caused them and how they might be prevented in the future
  • Assist with policy/program designs that result in prevention of injury or illness to workers and damage to the environment
  • Conduct training on a variety of safety topics
  • Conduct both routine and special inspections as directed by SES Staff or OHS Management System
  • Test/verify and identify work areas for potential health and safety hazards.( i.e., may examine and test machinery and equipment such as scaffolding and lifting devices to be sure that they meet appropriate safety regulations, may check that workers are using required protective gear, such as masks and hardhats or may check that hazardous materials are stored correctly).
  • Partner with CI/Engineering to mitigate ergonomic risks and improve processes

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS – Safety Studies (or closely related); equivalent experience considered in lieu of education
  • Professional demeanor, ability to interface with all levels of the organization including company executives, customers, and vendors
  • Attention to detail in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Focus on internal customer service; approachable, responsive and thorough in follow through
  • General computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an intermediate to advanced level
  • Familiarity with OSHA and NFPA rules and regulations as well as other relevant safety codes
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes and practices, typically achieved through work or internship experience in the industry
  • Working knowledge of industry standards including, but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, HAZCOM, HAZWOPER, Machine guarding, Personal Protective Equipment
