Outside Sales Representative- Gas and Welding

Do you have experience and proven track record in outside sales? Are you interested in a position selling gas and welding supplies? If so, this opportunity is more than a job- it’s a career that pays you for closing new business while also helping clients with their gas and welding needs.

You will be prospecting various size businesses in a variety of industries including manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, food and beverage. You will assist them in navigating gas and welding best practices for their respective industry as well as providing them with timely customer service.

West Penn Laco has been providing industrial/ specialty gases and welding products to Pennsylvania businesses for generations. We offer an array of gas solutions to fit our customer’s needs and welding solutions from industry leaders such as Miller, Lincoln, Hypertherm, Harris, and Hobart.


  • Prospect and cold call Owners/Operators, Shop Foremen, Welding Engineers, Purchasing Agents, etc.
  • Develop and implement a coordinated sales strategy to secure new customers and grow existing customer relationships.
  • Research products and services in order to learn about and implement the best techniques, applications and products to service our customers and support ongoing customer relations and retention.
  • Communicate with management, branch offices, delivery team members and other West Penn Laco (WPL) employees regarding customer orders, requirements, problems and concerns/order changes.
  • Proactively determine customer needs and propose appropriate, knowledgeable solutions based on customer expectations, product/service options and budget.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork, CRM information, and reports (e.g., pricing, prospect summaries, expense & time reports, etc.) on a timely basis.
  • Provide assistance to all WPL locations and staff as needed.

Territory and Targets

  • Should have technical industry knowledge or experience with industrial/ specialty gases and welding solutions.
  • Strong sales and customer service experience.
  • Previous experience selling to small and large shops and selling to various people within the organization.
  • Proven track record of prospecting and expanding existing accounts.
  • Bachelors degree in business, sales, finance or related field preferred.

  • Strong phone/cold-calling skills and the ability to proactively develop leads.
  • Good networking and relationship-building skills
  • Good in-person presentation skills.
  • Coachable, engaging and willing to learn.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks/exceptionally organized.
  • A self starter with high-energy, able to operate independently and also be a team-player.
