EXTERNAL RELATIONS ASSOCIATE

YOUR POSITION AT BGCGW

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) is seeking an External Relations Associate. This newly created role supports BGCGW’s Marketing, Communications and Development initiatives. This individual is the point-of-contact for corporate relationships seeking interaction with BGCGW, and is a Communications liaison and support for digital communications with all external audiences.

YOUR ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

EXTERNAL RELATIONS

  • Increase and elevate corporate partner engagements by overseeing onsite partner activations, corporate and individual volunteer activities and events.
  • Lead corporate volunteer outreach, organize RSVPs and volunteer activity logistics.
  • Create and manage volunteer event and activity calendar and ensure execution of timely communication with corporate volunteers, partners and internal team members and staff.
  • Track, manage and fulfill in-person and digital corporate sponsorship benefit requirements.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

  • Generate, post and maintain social media announcements, updates and promotional postings. This includes (but is not limited to) Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Tik Tok.
  • Research and assist in the writing of content for promotions, public relations and marketing—this includes (but is not limited to) media advisories, press releases, newsletters and articles.
  • Administrative work and other duties as assigned.

DEVELOPMENT

  • Serve as support to the Database Administrator for the gift acknowledgement process.
  • Build systems and standards for coding and tracking campaign prospects, volunteer solicitors and gifts so that reports can be generated.
  • Support general duties and/or external relations with the Resource Development team as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

YOU’LL NEED TO BRING

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two to three years of related experience; a demonstrated competence in writing for various platforms (social media, press/news, websites, etc.)
  • Commitment to the mission of BGCGW – must adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate an empathetic disposition and perseverance, and convey sensitivity to the needs of donors, staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent attention to details and follow through as demonstrated through effective project management experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and especially written.
  • Comfort multi-tasking multiple deadlines and projects and follow through.
  • High degree of sophistication, self-confidence and self-motivation – ability to keep calm under pressure.
  • Positive attitude working in a development department with high functioning fundraisers; team-focused, must enjoy and be successful at working on teams and able to roll up one’s sleeves and make things happen as an individual.
  • Flexibility, must be comfortable collaborating across multiple departments, six regional boards and 15 Club locations in the greater Washington, DC area.
  • Must be able to work at BGCGW headquarters, 4103 Benning Road, NE, Washington, DC, during normal operations, as well as working remotely during COVID-19.
  • Must have strong home internet connection (work laptop and cell phone will be provided).
  • Must own a car.
  • A “can do” approach; occasional evening and weekend work to be anticipated and expected.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is primarily sedentary and located at 4103 Benning Road, NE, Washington, DC during normal operations from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Requires the ability to speak, hear, and use a personal computer for standard business communications.

SALARY: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 /yr. Commensurate with experience.
