Cash Management Accountant

Summary of Position:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Comptroller for Accounting Operations, the Cash Management Accountant plays a vital role in all aspects of the corporate cash management function. Duties include monitoring corporate bank accounts, insuring the availability of cash for weekly cash outlays, and monitoring corporate receivable billings and collections. The successful candidate will also participate in the development of accounting systems, policies and procedures that support cash management and related processes.

Specific tasks for this position will include but are not limited to:

  • All routine cash management operations including daily cash administration, management of current accounts, and banking relations.
  • Working closely with the Accounts Payable Manager to ensure corporate payables are met within company policies.
  • Preparing all bank reconciliations.
  • Preparing and reconciling drawdowns from the Federal Payment Management System (PMS).
  • Monitoring accounts receivable to ensure funds are received on a timely basis and for the amount billed; investigating all discrepancies.
  • Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of financial reports.
  • Coordinating the end of the month closing process to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Setting up Electronic Funds Transfers for PHS vendors.
  • Preparing year-end reports and reconciliations.
  • Preparing supporting journal entries for all cash transactions..
  • Preparing audit schedules and assisting with the year-end audit.
  • Reviewing and approving purchase orders and other expense requests.
  • Performing ad-hoc projects as needed.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting from an accredited university
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a non-for-profit environment
  • Experience must incorporate reasonable exposure to the cash management functions described under specific tasks above
  • High level of competency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with colleagues across all levels of the organization.
  • Prior experience working with proprietary accounting systems.
  • Prior experience with software system replacement projects is a major plus.
