Visual Merchandiser and Sales Facilitator

The Visual Merchandiser and Sales Facilitator takes a critical and collaborative role in the creation of the Philadelphia Museum of Art store’s visual presentations for optimizing the visitors’ store experience and driving revenue. The position is directly tied to store support and is responsible for the flow of goods to all stores for generating sales. The Visual Merchandiser and Sales Facilitator builds strategically based store displays and assures, directly and indirectly, superior customer service. The position proactively participates in sales analysis and strategy for all merchandising and sales plans. Ensuring proper restocking and visual display maintenance utilizing store staff is necessary. Applicants must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.


  • Conceptualize and collaborate in the creation of three-dimensional artwork/display, both large and small scale.
  • Interpret concept direction and inspiration provided to meet the unique needs of each store including space constraints, knowledge of visitor and local community interests.
  • Infuse personal artistic interests and talents into the visual execution.
  • Continually generate fresh ideas in display using varied materials, while retaining a collaborative and flexible mindset.
  • Analyze, recommend and implement visual strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Understand and utilize sales analysis and sales goals to meet or exceed weekly and monthly objectives.
  • Increase business acumen by learning and using sales reports. Uses sales reports to communicate stock needs to the Merchandising team.
  • Recommend and communicate price strategies to better motivate sales.
  • Evaluate store level opportunities and critique merchandise assortments.
  • Participate with merchandising team on seasonal, core and new product assortments to determine placement and presentation in stores.
  • Lead, train and coach store staff on basic merchandise presentations including restocking, refreshing, and maintaining under/back stock positions.
  • Work with the Distribution Center team to organize and maintain a pristine environment.
  • Cultivate an awareness among the Retail staff inventory flow particularly as it relates to incoming product across all categories.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workspace.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Applied Arts background preferred.
  • Experience in visual merchandising and providing a high level of customer service in a museum retail setting with a desire to engage the public and sell.
  • Motivated to build an optimal visitors’ experience and achieve Retail sales and profit goals through all means including visual display.
  • Active eye for composition and a comprehensive knowledge of art and interior décor, as well as the personal commitment to actively and continually seek outside inspiration while staying tuned into current trends.
  • Clear communication skills to share process, product knowledge and vision with the entire Retail Department.
  • Team player who works well with others and shows courtesy and respect to colleagues.
