Customer Service- Customer service is the most important aspect of this role. As a sales associate your responsibility is to offer customers a pleasant, courteous, prompt service. This begins the moment the customer walks into the store. In order to provide excellent customer service an associate should be outgoing, happy, and like working with people.

  • Provide courteous, professional, prompt service- smile, greeting, engage in conversation
  • Welcome customers when they enter the store, thank customers when they leave the store
  • Provide after-sales service to encourage revisit customers
  • Assist customers who need help finding a specific item, recommend a comparable item if item is out of stock
  • Connect with customers in conversation so you may effectively assist with their needs
  • Approach customers who seem confused or lost and offer assistance

Sales Associate Qualifications

  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Cheerful, positive attitude, effective communication skills
  • Strong team player, yet able to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task, attention to detail, organization skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Maintain the quality of the stores presentation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the store products
  • Knowledge of store return/exchange policy

Duties/ tasks

  • Welcome customers by greeting them when they enter the store, offer immediate assistance at arrival
  • Advise customers by providing information on products
  • Open and close the cash register, count money, balance cash drawers, make bank deposits
  • Process payments; receive cash, store credit, credit cards
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales prices, promotions, discounts
  • Recommend and help locate merchandise based on customer needs
  • Clean shelves, counters, tables, floors
  • Bag or package purchase, wrap gift items
  • Regularly check inventory levels and restock when necessary
  • Refold and organize clothing to ensure organized displays
  • Create new displays, on the store floor and in front window
  • Unpack, move and handle boxes of merchandise
  • Set up merchandise displays (mannequins, window displays, display cases)
