Payroll Tax Specialist

Summary

Perform a variety of duties such as reconciling the payroll records to the general ledger, review and assist with weekly, monthly, quarterly audits, and reconciling accounts. Responsible for periodic, quarterly, and annual Federal, State and Local tax compliance and reconciliation and submission to 3rd party tax system.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and Balance Tax Liabilities by Company and Payrolls working with Ceridian and state/federal agencies.
  • Directly resolve or facilitate tax resolution issues surrounding federal, state, and local agencies
  • Ability to research and respond to payroll tax inquiries via agency and 3rd Party Vendors
  • Coordinates with Tax Team Lead, Payroll Manager or direct manager to resolve outstanding tax issues.
  • Assist in funding inquiries related to estimated and expedited tax payments
  • Provide support to address reconciliation discrepancies for periodic, quarter-end and/or year-end filings
  • Works with the appropriate team members to address and facilitate timely resolution to Payment Services inquiries. These include but are not limited to reviewing status of amendments, tax notices, collections and payments
  • Review and Resolve Tax Rates. Conduct research and work with Tax Lead, vendor and state agencies on any tax rate changes
  • Participate in payroll related conference calls to address tax area issues
  • Maintain the Payroll Shared Service support methodology and best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong peer relationships within the team and across the organization.
  • Ability to research and respond to accounting related payroll tax variances with minimum supervision
  • Prepare and reconcile quarterly and annual filings and submit to 3rd party tax service
  • Assist with Year End reconciliation and W2s/W2cs as needed
  • Assist with researching tax fall outs in the 3rd party tax system, register for Federal, Local, and State IDs and respond to related tax correspondence/invoices
  • Assist with managing tax software and test/implement new features and updates, assist with the quarterly and annual provisioning process

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Accounting or 5+ year related experience in payroll and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Full knowledge of all Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint). Preferably Advance Excel, VLookups and Pivot Table skill set. Payroll/ERP Systems: JD Edwards, Oracle, NetSuite, Ceridian.
