Learning Designer, Superkids

Zaner Bloser has three (3) Learning Designer roles open!

Please note: Candidates must have 3+ years' experience developing in either Kindergarten, First Grade or Second Grade reading and ELA instructional and practice materials, preferably for an educational publishing company. One role is available for each grade level.

Position Summary:

The Learning Designer, Superkids supports the growth of Zaner-Bloser's Superkids K-2 portfolio of products by sharing the responsibility for designing, planning, and developing new and revised print and digital ELA instructional materials for publication.

This individual will bring to the learning design team:

  • Deep experience developing materials for K-2 grades.
  • An evidence-based approach to literacy instruction
  • An equity-oriented approach to curriculum design
  • Leadership with the ability to drive projects and processes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • ELA Pedagogy Expertise
    • Robust knowledge in evidence-based instructional practices, including Science of Reading and Structured Literacy, and specifically pedagogy surrounding foundational reading skills and emergent/beginning literacy
    • Deep understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching reading and ELA skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, spelling, grammar, and writing
    • Ability to communicate approved product pedagogy and philosophy clearly to all working on the project, including vendors and other departments as needed
  • Learning Design & Content Development
    • Help conceptualize components of reading products, including teacher's editions and student practice materials, as well as instructional features, such as Differentiation, Personalization, Support for English Learners, and Predictable Routines
    • Write, review, and edit lessons and student practice materials to meet quality standards, including accuracy and adherence to curricular goals.
    • Represent the needs of the teacher, the learner, and the administrator in product discussions involving ELA and literacy
    • Serve as content editor through all stages of the development process from manuscript to published piece.
  • Project Management
    • Serve as lead learning designer on new product development projects. Day-to-day management of assigned projects, support others working on product development (both in and out of house)
    • Interact with internal team, authors, and consultants
    • Execute plan to meet all content, budget, and schedule requirements
    • Communicate clearly with all project stakeholders on topics such as status, risks/mitigations, project instructional approach/execution, etc.
    • Manage project documentation and archives with a detail-oriented approach. Remain well organized and prioritize workload to meet multiple project deadlines.

    • Actively engage with industry news and trends through reading, conferences and events (in-person or remote)
    • Stay informed about new products and changes in the market or educational policy
    • Make recommendations for future projects

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Reading, Education, Instructional design, Learning Science, or another education-related field.
  • 3+ years developing GK-2 reading and ELA instructional and practice materials, preferably for an educational publishing company
  • K-2 classroom experience, preferred
  • Familiarity with national and state ELA standards, WIDA standards, UDL, Accessibility (WCAG), and Social Content Standards
  • Professional, polished oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong written communication and sharp editorial skills also must be demonstrated

Within your first month, you'll:

  • Deepen your knowledge around The Superkids Reading Program and the Superkids Phonemic Awareness products and begin to understand roles, responsibilities and current practices of our product team.

Within your first year, you'll:

  • Lead the design and development of a new product component or enhancement to existing product.
