Outside Plant Technician

Major Duties

Classification: Non-Exempt, Bargaining

Outside Plant Technicians place, rearrange, repair, and remove all outside plant structures. Outside Plant Technicians drive to and from each work location in Company vehicles, and perform their work out of doors in all weather conditions. They must be knowledgeable in and abide by all National Electrical Safety codes and Company Safety Practices.

Responsibilities
  • Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
  • Physical Requirements - Medical Department evaluation and ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors is required. Department of Transportation Physical and Drug Screen.
  • Job Performance and Attendance Record - Satisfactory performance rating & attendance/punctuality record in present job.
  • Tours - May be required to work day, evening or night shifts and overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as assigned. Hours to be worked are determined by seniority, job requirements and qualifications.
  • Driver's License Information - Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A or B in state where work is performed. (See Attachment A.) Satisfactory driving record also required. Ability to drive vehicle with manual transmission may be required. A Department of Transportation Certificate may be required if driving a Company vehicle over 10,000 pounds. Compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as prescribed by the U.S. Department of Transportation is required. Random Drug Testing is administered for CDL drivers.
  • Security Investigation Information - Must meet the standards of a Security Investigation.
  • Additional Factors to be considered - Outside Plant Technicians are required to work in teams of two (2) or more technicians to perform their job.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Initial classroom training of approximately 3 to 5 weeks which may involve travel and/or overnight stays.

Other Information

All jobs that require valid state driver's license with satisfactory driving record. May also require the ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.

Class A or Class B commercial driver's licenses may be required for Automotive Mechanics, Coin Telephone Collectors, Equipment Installation Technicians, Garage Attendants, Outside Plant Technicians, Splice/Service Technicians, and Supplies Attendants.

New Hampshire

Company policy requires a minimum age for all motor vehicle licensees to be 18 years of age. Class A or Class B Commercial driver's licenses may be required for Automotive Mechanics, Coin Telephone Collectors, Equipment Installation Technicians, Garage Attendants, Outside Plant Technicians, Splice/Service Technicians, and Supplies Attendants. Commercial Driver's License required to drive vehicles weighing over 26,001 pounds.

Vermont

Company policy requires a minimum age for all motor vehicle licensees to be 18 years of age. Commercial Driver's License required to drive vehicles weighing over 26,001 pounds.
