Facilities Engineer


Performs maintenance, including installation, moving and repairs to/of buildings, grounds, equipment and systems in accordance with Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare's high safety and appearance standards. Ensures optimum efficiency and reliability of electrical, mechanical, automation and other utility systems. Also maintains utilities, building finishes, furniture and other office related elements as required.

Schedule: 1.0 FTE / Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm / On-Call rotation (every 4 weeks- 24/7 coverage)

Major Challenges

The major challenge of the job is being able to handle multiple tasks utilizing a variety of skills. Candidate must be competent to maintain and service mechanical and electrical building components. Must be able to repair hospital and clinic equipment such as various models of electric/pneumatic beds and exam tables. Will also repair office equipment such as chairs, desks, file cabinets and be able to repair/refurbish building finishes such as carpet and paint.

  • May require standing up to 8 hours a day



  • 2 year technical degree & 3 years maintenance work experience in the following areas: low voltage, electronics, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and pneumatics, preferably in an acute care environment OR 5 years technical work experience in the following areas: low voltage, electronics, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and pneumatics.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Experience with HVAC equipment (operations / maintenance)
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (programming / troubleshooting / reporting / data analysis) to ensure efficient operation.
  • Some knowledge of the healthcare environment
  • Proficient in reading and verifying construction documents, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical schematics and shop drawings
  • Ability to understand detailed maintenance / service instructions.
  • Great verbal and written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in teams
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary to support high priority requests or meet project goals.
  • Flexibility to work on several projects at the same time
  • Ability to carry an assigned cell phone daily and the on-call pager on a rotating basis
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Dedication to working safely
  • Ability to work independently


  • Advanced HVAC experience, including building automation systems
  • RO water system knowledge
  • Refrigerant handling certified
  • Accustomed to computerized work request system
  • Basic knowledge of fire safety codes and regulations
  • MN Special Class Boilers License
  • MN Certified Pool Operator License
