Your Team

The Public Affairs team is responsible for implementing policies and programs that enhance Brookfield's relationships with the community, the public, government and regulatory authorities, and various internal stakeholders.  The team collaborates with key partners in Communications, People & Culture, Sustainability/ESG, Investor Relations and Marketing to develop a deep knowledge of Brookfield's businesses, which enables them to effectively advocate for the organization.  The team crafts and executes robust government and community affairs programs, ensuring key external stakeholders appreciate and understand the breadth of Brookfield's impact.  Additionally, the Public Affairs team serves as an internal advisor on mitigation of potential reputational and political risk.

As a key member of the Public Affairs team, the Specialist will be need to be nimble and collaborative in order to fulfill the mission of coordinating external affairs efforts across Brookfield's businesses.  S/he will work very closely with the Sr. Director, Community Engagement on campaign development, stakeholder engagement, and project management.  As a member of a newer resource and function in the organization, the Specialist should be forward-thinking, innovative and entrepreneurial.

Your Key Deliverables

  • Support Public Affairs team project strategy and deadlines for internal clients, assign tasks to support staff and monitor progress throughout the project, and communicate status updates
  • Monitor and analyze state and local legislation with focus on policies that impact Brookfield's interests in key state and cities to communicate impacts to the broader organization
  • Develop engaging messaging and content for internal and external stakeholders to support development projects and the overall messaging platform
  • Draft public affairs documents, letters and presentations as needed to be finalized and fine tuned by the VP and Director
  • Research relevant stakeholders in priority markets and regions in order to understand who we are working with and what their key issues are in order to develop the outreach strategy, including targeted messaging and interactions.

Must Haves

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years related experience in Government Affairs, Community Affairs or Public Affairs
  • Knowledge of legislative processes and relevant policy areas
  • Experience working with community stakeholders and organizations, including development and execution of public affairs campaigns
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that provide confidence to interact with all levels of management and with critical public stakeholders
  • Superior analytical skills and substantive knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes
  • Substantial research skills and ability to digest complex information and concepts and translate it into effective messaging points
  • Demonstrate learning agility, critical thinking skills and ability to apply basic concepts in new situations
  • Ability to tactfully manage a diverse range of relationships with Brookfield businesses, external consultants, project teams and subject matter experts
  • Hyper-focused attention to detail and accuracy, confidentiality and integrity
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
