Job Description Summary

Our School aspires to become the premier educational partner of leading organizations in Charlotte and beyond. This role will lead that effort by establishing and executing the business development strategy for our School, direct our B2B partnership development efforts, and oversee our custom executive education program portfolio. This leader will cultivate strategic collaborations with senior executives and community leaders in Charlotte and the surrounding region, and design effective solutions for their talent development needs drawing from our existing, university-wide program portfolio and by directing the development of custom offerings to address their distinctive needs. Responsibilities will include identifying target partners; nurturing collaborative partnerships; formulating proposals and establishing pricing; managing execution of custom programs; and generate significant sources of revenue through value-adding solutions for our partner portfolio.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  •     Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive business development strategy, with an emphasis on creating long-term relationships that will create value for our partners and generate significant revenue into the University.
  •     Develop deep partnerships with leading organizations to expand the University's reach and educational impact. Construct business to business arrangements that provide comprehensive professional development for the partner company's talent base utilizing the whole university's strategic assets (faculty expertise, programmatic offerings, etc.).
  •     Serve as the client relationship/solutions manager for key partnerships, with the ability to cross-sell all educational offerings within the University. 
  •     Oversee the development of high quality, custom, executive education programs ensuring alignment with the business development plan identified for each client and by leveraging our internal faculty expertise, and alumni and other external networks.
  •     Establish and monitor appropriate metrics to assess the effectiveness of custom programs and state of partnerships and guide continuous improvement efforts.
  •     Collaborate with external partners (businesses, other academic institutions and third-party vendors) to create joint revenue opportunities in support of professional and economic development across the Charlotte area.
  •     Partner with University Advancement to establish and staff an impactful Board of Visitors for the School of Professional Studies. Manage board activities to optimize member engagement and build a sense of community, and meet aspirations for win-win strategic partnerships, programmatic enrollment growth, and financial sustainability. 
  •     Manage the details of partnerships, contracts, training, tracking and reporting systems, and program operations to maintain high levels of accountability. 
  •     Effectively represent our School externally in key community groups and associations to identify new business development opportunities.

    Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  •     Bachelor's degree plus 15 years of business development experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •     Demonstrated success with business to business sales and forging strategic partnerships. 
  •     Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the University passionately to potential partners, as well as listen and respond to the needs of a variety of stakeholders. 
  •     Proven ability to inspire, coach, and influence direct reports, senior leaders, board members and other staff. 
  •     Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented, and collaborative environment, as well as an interest in advancing SPS' innovative and high performing culture. Has a continuous improvement mindset.

    Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  •       MBA or Master's in business-related discipline.

  •       Prior experience in leading the development and delivery of custom, executive education programs.

  •      Familiarity with and deep connections to the business community of Charlotte.
