Background

CRS's Mission & Mobilization Division (M2) is building a movement of millions of people in the United States to increase the Church's impact and influence in combatting global poverty, violence and injustice. Animated by our Catholic faith's call to action to alleviate suffering and work to create a more just world for the world's poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people. CRS' movement building strategy is the outward expression of missionary discipleship-calling forth leaders who have encountered Christ in the face of the poor, becoming prophetic advocates for justice and the common good.

Job Summary

The Specialist designs and produces sequenced training modules aligned with CRS issue-based campaign messaging for key CRS audiences. The Specialist will work with Spanish writers and editors as necessary to ensure that all training materials are bilingual and bi-cultural (English and Spanish. When designing and producing training, a Leadership Development Framework, with a focus on enhancing volunteers' knowledge and skills, is used. Training topics include advocacy, fundraising, leadership, and issue briefings.

The production and maintenance of robust training content and resources supports an essential element of CRS's movement building strategy: volunteer development and ongoing training. Trainings support CRS's advocacy and fundraising goals.

Roles and Key Responsibilities

Content Development

Produce and continuously improve bilingual, bi-cultural training content for both virtual and in-person settings for

  • CRS's chapter network with leaders and members of adult chapters, university chapters, and high school clubs. CRS Chapter Trainings include:
    • Chapter and club orientations
    • Monthly national chapter conference calls
    • Ongoing trainings: 101, 201, 301, etc. level
    • Specialized trainings for each chapter role
  • CRS campaign trainings, including the following topics/events:
    • Campaign issues
    • Key campaign actions including CRS Rice Bowl
    • Annual campaign events
    • Hill Days
    • National and regional gatherings

Collaboration

Campaign Team

  • Align training content with campaign messaging in partnership with the Content Team
  • Produce bilingual, bi-cultural trainings in collaboration with Spanish writers and editors on the Content Team.
  • Ensure trainings support M2's advocacy and fundraising goals in collaboration with the Action Team
  • Digitally upload and distribute training content in collaboration with the Action Team
  • Continuously evaluate training content with the Program Quality & Design Advisor

Cross-Divisional

  • Ensure alignment with M2's chapter strategy and implementation by partnering with two National Advisors
  • Assess chapter trainings and upload training content to Salesforce Communities as appropriate, in cooperation with M2's Strategy and Operations team
  • Collaborate with M2's Church Engagement unit on training content for events and key church audiences
  • Ensure alignment with chapter implementation and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) by collaborating with National Advisors and M2's Strategy & Operations team
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in education, instructional design, political science, or related field
  • Three years' work experience with complex national volunteer programs, training, grassroots advocacy or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of Catholic social teaching and its practical application, contemporary Catholic Church issues and trends; knowledge of the structure of the Catholic Church in the U.S. and demonstrated ability to work within its culture
  • Broad knowledge of international issues, particularly related to the developing world
  • Knowledge of grassroots advocacy mobilization

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (SKAs)

  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, especially PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated understanding and support of bilingual and bi-cultural (English and Spanish) resource development, or willingness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed with ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Highly collaborative team player, able to work independently and with others
  • Able to display critical thinking and self-reflection, particularly as it applies to continual improvement of work products

Required Languages - English. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Travel - Must be willing and able to travel up to 5% within the US, when travel resumes for a few trainings and in-person

Internal: Advisor II, Leadership Development and Training and fellow Content & Action team members, National Advisor, Leadership Development; National Advisor, Volunteer Management; and M2's Strategy and Operations unit

External: Key audiences including CRS Chapters: adult, university, and high school; and CRS issue-based campaign supporters
