Cadmus is seeking an Analyst to join our distributed energy resources (DER) practice. We support electric utilities, local governments, state and federal agencies, and the private sector on wide range of consulting projects involving solar PV, battery storage, demand response, electric vehicle infrastructure, building electrification, decarbonization studies, and equity analysis. We are looking for exceptionally talented, bright, and driven people who have experience and interest in DERs to provide strategic planning, market research, data analytics, implementation, and evaluation services to support clients who are driving forward the energy transformation.

As DERs gain greater market share, there is an increasing need to assess their use cases, analyze market potential, and evaluate performance across all market segments. States, cities and utilities require support to conduct market research, develop policies, and implement programs that can enable widespread deployment. Similarly, they require advanced data analytics to assess DER performance over time-and model future development pathways. Growth of the DER market presents opportunities for multi-disciplinary problem-solving, which will require holistic approaches from top-notch market analysts.

The Analyst will work closely with senior staff to provide project management support and technical analysis, including policy research, qualitative and quantitative market research, potential studies, advanced data analytics and modeling, program evaluation, and other technical assistance related to DER deployment.

The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, motivated, and capable of creative problem-solving and independent work. The candidate should also have a working knowledge across topics such as solar, battery storage, demand response, or grid flexibility. Previous DER experience or detailed modeling and analytics experience is highly valued. The successful candidate is able to work collaboratively, can manage assigned tasks and projects from start to finish with input from supervisors, and has strong written, verbal, and analytical skills and has a passion for sustainability and decarbonization.

    As an Analyst on the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) team, you would be responsible for:
  • Working independently or with minimal supervision to support research efforts, ensuring consistency and quality of research methods;
  • Providing project management in close collaboration with senior staff and principals to ensure timely delivery of project deliverables to clients;
  • Conducting research, interviews, and quantitative and qualitative analyses, focused on technical, policy, market adoption, performance, and/or financial impacts of DER technologies;
  • Clearly and concisely summarizing analytical results (in Word or PowerPoint), ensuring accuracy of content and adherence to format and other pertinent details;
  • Supporting technical assistance requests and presenting results to government staff, policy-makers, utility clients, and industry representatives;
  • Ensuring consistency and quality of research methods;

  • Substantively contribute to strategic planning exercises, including presenting results professionally to clients
  • Helping facilitate policy, economic, and technical exchanges for decision-makers; and
  • Conducting research and analysis across a range of solar, storage, DR, microgrids, EVs and heat pump pilot projects, programs, and policies.
  • Leading or substantially contributing to data analytics and modeling exercises, including experience with relational database management
  • BS/BA in a relevant field
  • 2-4+ years of professional work experience
  • Project management and/or budget management experience, including the ability to manage deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of concepts related to solar, storage, microgrids, DR, energy efficiency, or strategic electrification planning.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Quantitative and software skills with applications such as Python, SQL, R Studio, and similar software tools
