Staff Accountant

The Opportunity

At Berkadia, our Staff Accountants play a critical role in delivering an exceptional and smooth experience for our clients, partners and employees. Berkadia has an immediate opportunity for you to use your relationship-building skills, attention to detail and previous experience in a general accounting position, to support and assist our Corporate Accounting Manager with the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Daily review and approval of loan closing wires to ensure accurate accounting of loan proceeds.
  • Verify fee allocations by comparing closing documents to Salesforce.
  • Calculate available good faith funds to ensure no overdrafts occur.
  • Follow up with loan closers as needed.
  • Save, download and update files for each loan closing.
  • Daily posting of loan closing entries.
  • Review entries prepared by others for accuracy and post to the general ledger.
  • Follow up on all discrepancies as needed.
  • Prepare daily cash transactions for assigned bank accounts.
  • Posting of reclass entries pertaining to loan closings and good faith activity as needed.
  • Review of loan sale entries prepared by others for proper allocation and posting to the general ledger.
  • General ledger account reconciliations.
  • Month end accounting processes.
  • Assist with audit requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will need to be successful in this role

  • Minimum one year of experience working in a general accounting role required.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of Accounting theory, principles and practices.
  • Previous experience working with a general ledger, posting journal entries, administrating cash transactions, reconciling information and participating in the monthly close process.
  • Proficiency with Excel required.
  • Experience with Workday Financials, Peoplesoft or Salesforce desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
