Overview

OVERVIEW

The Regional Category Manager, Electricity manages a broad portfolio of electrical spend for locations within US. Participates in Global & Regional initiatives, including hedging & renewables projects.


Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage an annual electricity spend of $200 million encompassing over 600 locations across the United States and minimal Canadian operations.
  • Load Management & Demand Response: Combine electricity market knowledge and understanding of each site's unique equipment, process constraint and flexibilities to determine the lowest cost operational strategy within the offered utility rate structures and available demand response programs.
    • Act as a change agent by promoting operational changes to capture identified savings.
    • Prioritize opportunities and support with quantitative analysis of historical consumption patterns to gain site buy-in.
    • Educate sites on cost drivers so they can operate in the most cost effective way. Develop business case, educate and enroll eligible sites. Collaborate with site employees to ensure compliance for maximum payment.
    • Establish baseline and monitor performance. Monitor and report savings.
  • Supply Management: Negotiate electricity agreements taking into account all aspects of supply, not just the price of energy. Leverage the purchasing power of multiple sites. Ensure contracting is in accordance with company policies and procedures, including the tendering, evaluating and awarding process.
    • Monitor energy contracts to ensure: (1) supplier compliance on price, term and conditions, (2) alignment with current production plan by proactively managing liquidation. Lead dispute resolution on contract issues.
    • Understand electricity market dynamics and risk management practices including hedging. Anticipate risks & opportunities and proactively respond. Keep key business partners and stakeholders informed with developments.
  • Regulatory: Monitor regulated utilities' rate cases. Quantify impact to determine when intervention would be beneficial. Manage intervention process to minimize legal cost.
  • Strategy: Develop and execute innovative, sound sourcing strategies. Support strategies with solid analysis to guide timely business decision making. Review regularly with stakeholders.
  • Budgeting: Lead the budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes. Develop working budget models to allow analysis of various manufacturing and energy market scenarios. Drive approval process according to defined timelines.
  • Reporting: Provide accurate, timely and relevant reports to business partners and stake holders. Prepare any ad-hoc reporting to assist in management review and decision making.
  • Make significant contributions toward operational cost saving objectives and company goals.

  • Global Procurement: Participates in Global & Regional initiatives, including hedging & renewables projects.
  • Manufacturing: Manages Category interfaces from requirements and Budget development to operational changes for lowering electricity cost and problem solving
  • Finance: Provides Budget and market trend information
  • Legal: Ensure contracts and actions comply with all policies and coordinate participation in regulatory intervention using outside legal counsel
  • Environment, Land and Government Affairs: Coordinate to monitor regulation and policy that could impact electricity cost. Combine resources to participate in industry groups that align with company policies and public statements. Collaborate to use non-reserve land for the highest benefit to the company (renewables, lease, etc).

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required Education: Bachelor's/University Degree

Additional Education Preferred: Master's/Graduate Degree

Preferred field of study: Purchasing, Business, Economics or Engineering

Other Training/Certifications Required: Certified Energy Procurement Professional, Certified Energy Manager or Similar - Recognized in the industry as Energy Trader or Buyer

Work Experience: 5-7 years

Travel Requirements: 20%

Computer and Software Skills: Advanced Excel & Google Sheets, Proficient in PPT & Google Suite. Basic SAP knowledge or equivalent
