Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations include the following:

  • You will work as part of a team but must also be prepared to act independently as the situation may warrant.
  • Receive and route incoming calls through computer based dashboard
  • Understand and perform requirements of Perkins Security Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain the security of the building by ensuring all visitors are checked-in and escorted
  • Identify staff members entering building through properly identified or have an ID
  • Monitor security access control system as well as CCTV for on-campus security awareness 
  • Accountability and issuance of Perkins keys and badges to authorized staff member
  • Tend to all needs and questions for visitors and direct to the appropriate staff
  • Patrol buildings and grounds of school facilities on requested basis while on duty; ensuring security and safety of the campus by examining doors, windows, and gates; to record inspection times of assigned inspection locations in security log diaries.
  • Checking electronic and mechanical devices that require monitoring and recording, and reporting any abnormal conditions
  • Providing access control, security, and customer interface on campus during the normal course of business and event-related assignments 
  • Rendering first-responder services to all emergencies and incidents within the scope of your training 
  • Use various equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, and AED
  • Place telephone call(s) to Administrative Emergency Contact (AEC) and/or other public safety officers and school officials depending on the type and circumstance of the emergency or events.
  • Prepare written incident reports
  • Assist with mail as required
  • Perform routine office support functions
  • Maintain a high level of maturity and professionalism
  • Provide excellent customer service to all students, staff, and visitors
  • Act as a role model for students and staff
  • Serve as an active member of the Emergency Response Team and the Fire Safety Committee
  • Schedule Fire Safety Committee Meetings and evacuation drills. Record and distribute Fire Safety meeting minutes 
  • Assist with new employee training of SOP and administrative duties
  • Serve as "Security Team Leader" in the absence of the Security and Safety Manager
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management

Specific Qualifications for the role: 

  • Ability to spend periods of time walking, standing, or sitting
  • Ability to perform basic first aid and CPR, or the ability to acquire such knowledge through training
  • Ability to present a neat, clean, non-threatening appearance and professional demeanor
  • Ability to demonstrate poise and self-control under stress
  • Basic computer proficiency with working experience in Microsoft suite applications
  • Dedication to excellent customer service
  • High standard of honesty and ethics
  • Good analytical skills

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma required with a minimum of 2 years in a security role.
  • Experience in a role requiring solid interpersonal skills as well as experience in Physical Security techniques and principles, or acquire such knowledge through training or education.

Physical Demands

Typically, workers are required to ascend and descend ladders or stairs, walk, bend, reach, lift and handle objects, travel independently, and use hand tools and equipment specific to the discipline, and occasionally a computer and keyboard.  Work requires expression or exchange of ideas and the ability to receive detailed information.  Work requires ability to compare, compile, analyze, and coordinate data and information; ability to follow instructions, diagrams or plans; and ability to utilize effective interpersonal skills and behaviors. Work Environment 

The work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job are those typical to a school facilities environment. Occasionally may be exposed to extreme heat or cold or wet conditions. Noise levels in the work environment are usually moderate. The front desk reception is posted in a normal office environment; noise levels in the area are normally moderate.
