Production Supervisor

Position Summary

Under the general direction of General Manager, supervise union personnel ensuring that the operation/maintenance of the Absaloka Mine/Facilities complies with authorized practices and procedures, and production/maintenance requirements are accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position has supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement an effective safety program conducting safety meetings as required, ensure effective new and refresher safety task training for assigned personnel; monitor and inspect work areas to assure area is safe and in compliance with all MSHA and company safety rules and regulations, correcting all unsafe conditions.
  • Supervise all personnel assigned to them on shift, including assignment of duties, evaluation of performance, training and recommendation for training.
  • Ensure effective coal quality control procedures are used; coordinate safe mine/facilities activities to maximize equipment availability and provide for preventive and scheduled maintenance.
  • Analyze operational/maintenance requirements and adjust priorities as required.
  • Prepare or review reports as required to evaluate and document activities.

Typical Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet, windy, hot or humid conditions, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position requires rotating and/or weekday and weekend shifts, both night and day shifts are required according to company needs.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in mining or related industry or a college degree in Civil, Mechanical or Mining Engineering
  • Previous experience in supervising and directing the work of others
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance functions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental and safety regulations
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with other supervisors, professionals, representatives, and departmental staff from within and outside the company
  • Proficient computer experience, specifically Microsoft Office Suite

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License with a good driving record
  • Successful candidate must possess or obtain a State of Montana Mine Foreman Certificate within the first 90 days of employment
