Head of Category Management

Critical to our growth is our Head of Category Management.  This individual is responsible for the management and strategic growth of our portfolio of microbrands, owning the P&L (including top-line and contribution margin), while working cross-functionally across the growth, supply chain, and customer operations teams to drive financial performance.  


  • Lead our category management team to drive continuous improvement in the performance of the brands and products within their categories, executing on the basics flawlessly and taking calculated big swings as appropriate to drive breakout performance
  • Continuously refine our brand and category architecture to effectively integrate newly acquired brands into our operating rhythms and quickly scale learnings and playbooks across the portfolio
  • Measure and report on financial and market share performance across the portfolio to drive allocation of teams and resources to where they will be most impactful
  • Partner with specialist teams (e.g. advertising, pricing, SEO) to define growth strategies and repeatable playbooks for brands and collections of brands.  These playbooks will drive increasing share of each brand and product’s relevant profit pool
  • Partner with our head of product and CTO to create a growth technology roadmap that enables us to leverage data and technology to execute our growth playbooks at scale
  • Own and update rolling 12-month forecasts for every product in the portfolio to support the supply chain team in ensuring adequate inventory levels and efficient capital usage
  • Outline and define product enhancements or new variations to continuously improve our competitive position within each category and work with the operations team to execute
  • Participate in the recruitment of high-quality candidates across the whole business
  • Intentionally develop the culture across the company as a whole and within the growth team in line with the company’s stated mission and values

About You

You are an entrepreneurial, data-driven, and proven leader who has the experience and drive to build a high-performing team to compete in a competitive retail environment.  This requires an ability to cut through the noise to understand what really drives value, to develop and motivate a team that is innovating constantly, and an ability and desire to dive into the details as needed to help solve problems or pressure-test a hypothesis.  Also very important is a desire and openness to learn rapidly from data-driven trial and error and the humility to learn from others, including the growing network of former brand owners from whom we purchased each brand.
