Role Summary

Directs the development, implementation, and coordination of policies and programs encompassing the following: employee relations, wage and salary management, performance management, employee training and development, recruitment, benefits, safety and environmental, regulatory compliance and employee services as required.  Direct and coordinate daily activities of the Human Resources Department team. Duties also include ensuring consistency in all facets of the Division keeping within the Magna Employee Charter; Employee Opinion Survey; Corporate Constitution and other Human Resource Corporate Audits (e.g. Safety, Environmental, Ergonomic, Mafact, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

•    Lead and direct the Company health, safety and environmental objectives and support the company’s health and safety directives to provide a safe and healthful workplace for all employees, this includes:
o    Regulatory compliance with local, state and federal legislations.
o    Establishing plant-wide measurable and goals that meet or exceed industry standards, and are monitored, tracked and audited on a regular basis and communicated to employees.
o    Recognition of accomplishments/milestones in the areas of safety, environmental, ergonomics and employee wellness.
o    Development of effective programs that increase employee awareness and involvement in the areas of safety, environmental, ergonomics and employee wellness
o    Accountability of supervisors for enforcing safety rules and implementing the necessary training and corrective actions to ensure proper focus on established objectives.
•    Exhibit a fair and consistent management approach, following the principles outlined in the Employee Charter that ensures fair treatment to ensure a productive employee workforce. Responsible for maintaining positive employee relations including fostering an open communications climate, effective resolution of employee concerns, and consistent application of company policy.
•    Responsible for labor relations (Grievance handling, CBA negotiation preparations, participation in contract negotiations, etc.)
•    Oversee the administration and handling of personnel records, employee recreation, and benefit programs such as:  health and welfare benefits, COBRA, life and disability insurance, employee assistance programs, relocation, & foreign assignment assistance.
•    Responsible to ensure that departmental policies, procedures and instruction are implemented and followed to satisfy the requirements of the TS16949 quality management system.
•    Investigate, document and follow-up on incidents/accidents, harassment, and other employment matters.  Represent the organization, if required, at personnel-related hearings, trials, and/or investigations.
•    Develop key metrics to measure effectiveness of HR policies, procedures, employee turnover, safety, performance, training and other personnel matters.
•    Successful management and oversight of wage and benefits, employee opinion surveys and job performance evaluations.
•    Direct employment activities to ensure that qualified and suitable employees are recruited and hired for divisional positions through coordinating, selecting, promotion and placement of all internal and external recruitment activities.
•    Oversee all aspects of workers compensation and disability claims management and administration as well as all other Health and Safety Programs.
•    Ensures compliance to statutory regulations that affect hiring and employment.
•    Support the organization’s cost reduction obligations through involvement in continuous improvement teams, six sigma or 5S projects.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Special Knowledge:
•    Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field required; Masters or advanced degrees/certifications preferred
•    HR professional certifications preferred
•    Understanding of manufacturing, assembly, sequencing and equipment principles
•    A thorough knowledge and understanding of state and federal laws, rules and government regulations is required
•    Strong knowledge and understanding of insurance regulations, plan designs and third-party record keeping/administration required
•    Thorough understanding of COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, HIPAA, and other related HR regulations and requirements.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Experience with PeopleSoft and/or ADP is required.

Additional Information

•    Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in Human Resources with demonstrated responsibilities in payroll, compensation, benefits, problem solving, and employee relations. 
•    Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading safety in a manufacturing environment
•    Minimum of 2 years’ experience in union environment
•    Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required
•    Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, as well as, strong organization skills
•    Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
•    Experience working in a IATF16949 Quality System desired
•    Experience with immigration helpful
•    Ability to analyze wage and salary reports and date to determine competitive compensation plan
•    Must be able to demonstrate high-level of competencies in areas such as decision-making, planning, organizing, and research and development
Strong leadership and supervisory skills with solid communication and negotiation abilities
