Job Details

The Formulation Chemist will assist in the formulation and exploration of various personal care products,
cosmetics, and HI&I products to showcase the application of varied raw materials. The position will also
provide support and technical customer service for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assist in the formulation of various personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products for publication in

notable Personal Care Industry publications and web sites.
  • Coordinate with marketing on publication of formulas providing formula proportions, procedures,

technical names, and specifications.
  • Research raw materials for application and formulation assistance.
  • Support Sales staff as needed by creating samples and trouble shoot formulas for Coast Southwest

customer reports.
  • Reviews data, provides preliminary interpretation and draws conclusions. Proposes next steps and

strategies of development efforts. Reports progress/issues on a timely basis.
  • Conduct basic laboratory and stability testing.
  • Maintains various records and samples with accuracy following the appropriate lifecycle and

retention schedules.
  • Any other duties as directed by supervisor.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science or similar field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in cosmetic formulation
  • Ability to be self-motivated, work independently as well as work well with other employees.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments, such as mixers, viscometers, pH meters,

and homogenizers.
  • Strong working knowledge of various mathematical concepts including fractions, ratios, and

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret information
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, duties and assignments.
  • Ability to operate manufacturing equipment and to obtain processing knowledge to run a production

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Knowledge of SDS, TDS, and batch procedures.

  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background checks, drug testing and behavioral

  • Ability to verbally communicate both in person and via telephone.
  • Ability to utilize various office equipment, including computer, telephone, fax machine and copy

  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 10 pounds.
