Marketing Communications Specialist


The marketing communications specialist plans, conducts and manages marketing communications activities to help achieve the marketing goals of an assigned Michael Baker International Practice(s). Typical tasks include preparing collateral materials, advertisements, conference materials and digital content, among other marketing activities. All deliverables demand impactful writing, targeted strategy in support of marketing and business goals, and standards of Michael Baker brand excellence.   

A successful marketing communications specialist must be detail oriented, a self-starter and able to balance short-term and long-term deadlines and goals. The employee must manage time and coordinate resources effectively, while maintaining a focus on strategic objectives. The specialist must bring a proactive, professional and creative approach; be an effective listener; and clearly communicate in both written and oral presentations.  

Essential Duties
  • Understand assigned Practice(s) positioning and differentiation strategies and implement marketing communications tactics to support business needs.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership and subject matter experts to develop and maintain a portfolio of integrated marketing communications materials for assigned Practice(s). Deliverables include but are not limited to: advertisements, brochures, project descriptions, direct mail, emailers, blogs, newsletters, marketing qualifications and presentations.  
  • Coordinate and support trade show and/or special event strategy and program development, including pre-positioning and post-event follow up.  
  • Accountable to following all corporate marketing communications procedures and protocols.  
  • Other duties as assigned.


At least 5 years of increasingly responsible marketing communications experience.


Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications or related business discipline. 


  • Planning, project management, attention-to-detail and coordination skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience to work with employees at all levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects from concept to completion in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Skilled at translating complex subjects into communications for broad audiences. 
  • Proficient in AP Style and able to write clearly and succinctly with a high-level of accuracy, using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. 
  • Proven experience in ensuring budgets and schedules meet requirements. 
  • Demonstrated creative, innovative thinking. 
  • Knowledge of layout and graphic design principles to art direct projects. 
  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office applications, Excel, and PowerPoint.
