WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Buyer II within Abbott Hematology will be responsible for procuring goods and services from suppliers for Abbott Diagnostics Division in Santa Clara considering price, quality, and service relative to the end user’s needs and company policies.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Ensure strict supplier compliance with Abbott product quality and workmanship standards and design changes.
  • Confer with personnel; users; and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the forces of supply and demand which regulate price and availability of materials in the marketplace.
  • Formulate and analyze bid proposals.
  • Negotiates or renegotiates and administers contracts with suppliers.
  • Evaluates and monitors contract performance to determine need for changes and to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Arbitrates claims and resolves complaints generated during performance of contract.
  • Understand suppliers’ cost structure; negotiates price and service arrangements which are fair relative to suppliers’ costs.
  • Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing.
  • Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new projects and activities
  • Process requisitions and update management on status of orders.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of products and compliance with the contracts of purchase
  • Prepare reports and updates as and when required
  • Work closely with others in the procurement function and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business improvements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • High School diploma and 4 years relevant work experience, or Bachelors degree and 2 years relevant work experience preferred  
  • 2-4 years professional purchasing experience.

Preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years working in a Research and Development environment
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Good negotiation, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience from a regulated environment
