Quality Assurance Specialist - Electrical Systems


As a Quality Assurance Specialist, you will work to ensure that manufactured products are produced at the highest level of quality.  This includes working with and alongside the Production staff to continually improve manufacturing processes and resulting quality output, as well as ensuring quality products by properly defining and executing inspections and tests.  Production mainly consists of fabrication and/or assembly of electrical control panels and other related engineered systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process or final inspections and/or testing of critical assembly tasks or components.
  • Prepare inspection plans for new production.
  • Identify and report document discrepancies in the production process.
  • Identify and report non-conforming material in process.
  • Understand, comply and monitor current quality procedures and requirements throughout production.
  • Understand, comply and monitor current safety policies and regulations throughout production; report unsafe practices to manager.
  • Train Production staff on proper use of equipment and procedures.
  • Document problems and changes encountered in production, implement corrective action and/or training plans as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist assembly and production, including troubleshooting and rework.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in other areas such as incoming inspection, slow-moving inventory, time/motion studies, workmanship auditing, methods auditing, process documentation, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Maintain professional, technical, and computer knowledge via education, training, workshops, publications etc.
  • Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.


Education and Experience:  

  • Two-year technical degree or minimum four years related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Manufacturing processes and electrical equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), electro-mechanical controls, motor controllers, conveyance, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical panel building and assembly.
  • Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, instruction manuals, bill of material parts lists, specifications and other technical documents.
  • Use of standard inspection tools such as multi-meters, loop calibrators, RTD simulators, micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc. with effective safety, testing and measurement techniques and procedures; attention to high voltage is required.
  • Knowledge of machine specifications, motion/process control, quality assurance and automated test techniques.
  • Technical and electrical/mechanical problem solving.
  • Document release and revision control.
  • Lean manufacturing.
  • Basic knowledge of International Organization for Standardization for quality management (ISO 9001), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC), Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and European Conformity (CE) standards and practices.
  • Use of computer application software.
  • Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) using AutoCad, Eplan, PromisE a plus.
  • Fluent in English, verbally and written.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting for majority of the time or standing for 2 continuous hours while remaining alert and focused.
  • Requires the ability to bend, stretch, and lift/ handle materials up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75-100 pounds.
  • Tools used require all extremities, including digits of the hands.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to read color coding - must be sighted and not color-blind (including being able to distinguish various shades of the same color).
