Rental Assistant


Do you have experience working with special events or in a front line customer service role?  If so, come join the City of Olathe as a Rental Assistant.

This part-time position is responsible for monitoring a variety of business, organization and private party rentals at the city’s event venues.  Events held include meetings, weddings, and other types of special events. This position is also responsible for the cleanliness of rooms and equipment, the safety of clients and guests and maintaining a positive and healthy environment.

The City of Olathe offer three event spaces, Venues at 061 include the Heritage Center at Mahaffie, the Olathe Community Center and Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a representative and liaison of the city to rental clients and guests; demonstrating a positive attitude, displaying professionalism and courtesy in assisting clients, guests, other employees and the general public
  • Communicate room use and rental policies and procedures to all users
  • Supervise and assist with room setups, flips, and take down as assigned
  • Responsible for closing and securing the venue at the end of rental events
  • Attend or monitor, as appropriate, room use functions to provide active support
  • Monitoring rental groups at the Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe, the Heritage Center at Mahaffie and on the Mahaffie historic grounds, the event space at the Indian Creek Library and the event space at the Olathe Community Center.
  • Assist in enforcing city and rental venue policies
  • Compiling simple written records related to assigned events
  • Follow and enforce applicable safety rules and regulations related to the use of equipment and/or facilities
  • Assist with light cleaning duties when necessary.
  • Work cooperatively with other city employees, rental program staff and event vendors
  • Performs other related duties as required.  
  • Must be able to work flexible hours. Shifts are primarily weekends, weeknights and some holidays.

Experience & Education

Experience and Education Guidelines Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Experience:     At least one year of experience working with special events or in a customer service role is preferred. Must have excellent customer service skills, be detailed oriented
Education:  High school graduate. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Licensed/Certifications: First Aid/CPR. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Supplemental Information

Schedule:  This is a year-round part-time non-benefited position that will work less than 19 hours per week.  Shifts are primarily weekends, weeknights and some holidays.
Must pass a pre-employment background investigation, physical and drug screen.
