Analytical Chemist - R&D

The Analytical Chemist will lead the company’s efforts in the application of analytical measurement methods and tools. This is a full-time direct hire role in an R&D organization with company values like “honesty and integrity”. (This is not another contract assignment).

Job Requirements:

The focus of your work will be Analytical Testing, methods development, and data analysis in support of process development and scale-up.   Your Analytical R&D lab and small-scale pilot plants are in Rockland County NY. There is a large-scale Pilot Plant in TX.     Analytical data collection and analysis is critically important in this company, and this will be a critically important and highly valued role in this team-oriented company.  Activities include:

·         Develop rigorous analytical methods  

·         Write standard analytical method procedures that are comparable to ASTM methods  

·         Assist project teams by providing a chemistry perspective; help develop hypotheses and conducting relevant tests

·         Supports future pilot plant activities by identifying analytical solutions in collaboration with engineers and scientists

·         Mentor and teach junior scientists, engineers, and technicians regarding analytical methods and instrumentation.

·         As time permits, participate in product development studies. This requires an ability to plan and manage test programs involving company resources, 3rd-party laboratory, and external certification bodies such as ASTM and other industry consortium groups.

Background Qualifications:   

We are searching for an Analytical Chemist who has worked with plastics & polymers materials, has demonstrated problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and a history of taking a pro-active approach in a team setting.  

·         MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or closely related field is required.

·         5+ years of experience in Industry (not only academia) as an Analytica Chemist involved with plastics and polymers.

·         Required skills & experiences:

o    Analytical method development and procedure writing

o    Data quality control and assurance methodologies

o    Statistical process methods

o    Application of selected ASTM and EPA test procedures (plastic materials emphasized0

o    ICP atomic emission spectrometry, ion chromatography & HPLC, gas chromatography (GC), and mass spectrometry (GCMS).

o    Working knowledge of Agilent ChemStation software

·         Additional skills in these areas would be a plus (listed here to help with your cover letter writing):

o    FTIR identification of plastics

o    Water analyses

o    On-line process sampling systems
