Job Summary

As a Program Underwriter, you will support our commercial transportation programs. This is a tremendous opportunity to work alongside some of the best Program Managers in the commercial insurance business. Program Underwriters are responsible for reviewing and analyzing critical underwriting data in order to determine if risks meet corporate underwriting standards, calculate appropriate premium and ascertain proper terms for acceptable risks and respond to program administrators when risks do not meet underwriting guidelines. A key factor of success in this role is executing on developing and maintaining profitable business relationships with program administrators.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer Service

  • Solicit profitable business from assigned program administrators and managing general agencies

  • Analyze new business opportunities and develop renewal strategies

  • Evaluate program performance in conjunction with Claims and Actuarial staff

  • Attain quote, premium and division goals as assigned

  • Monitor, evaluate and manage program administrators and/or managing general agencies thru regular underwriting file reviews, monthly calls/meetings, referrals and agency analysis

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with program administrators

  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to negotiate with brokers on placements

  • Conduct competitor research

  • Travel to meet with assigned program administrators

    Experience and Education

  • Bachelors Degree preferred

  • 2+ years of related underwriting experience, preferably commercial underwriting experience

  • Preferably pursuing courses toward professional designations or continuing education.
