Intake Clinician / Therapist

As an Intake Clinician / Therapist with Arizona's Children Association you will have the opportunity to provide clinical evaluation and assessment of clients and their family's situation, provide group and/or individual therapy, maintain clinical files and complete required progress reports. You may also be working with school programs, referral agencies and other outside resources.

Our starting annual salaries for Clinicians is as follows:
Master's in Social Work: $42,910.40
Master's in Social Work and Associate License: $48,464.00
Master's in Social Work and Independent License: $55,432.00

    What You'll Do: 

  • Conducts a full and ongoing assessment utilizing the program specific protocol, including verbal and written diagrams, summarizes central issues, themes and agreements reached, develops operational problem definition, assess structural functioning of individual in relationship to environment/milieu/family, conducts thorough child/family strengths and needs assessment.
  • Engages the child/ family collaboratively in order to create safety and stability for each family member.
  • Builds rapport and credibility simultaneously with varying individuals, family members, populations, stakeholders, and community members. Relates to variety of individuals with professionalism, warmth, empathy, acceptance and humor.
  • Develops and implements successful trauma informed intervention including identifying the treatment method, collaboratively establish treatment plans that identify issues, goals and measurable objectives that are achievable in a reasonable time frame, interventions/strategies that address the assessment issues, and maintains timely progress notes that reflect movement towards goals/objectives.
  • Provides effective trauma informed crisis management according to program guidelines (within each program/specialty).
  • Plans for client treatment discharge/termination including establishing treatment plans that addresses projected length of care and discharge criteria, helping the family plan and prepare for discharge needs, maintaining progress notes that reflect movement towards goals/objectives. Makes follow-up referral as needed.
  • Conducts educational activities to promote client understanding of the impact of trauma, treatment issues including medication, diagnosis, parenting skills.
  • Establishes team commitment to common goals and an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
  • Maintains clinical records in a timely manner according to standards and requirements.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and ethics specific to the agency and particular professional certification.
  • Interacts professionally, clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Participates in in-service training and educational opportunities outside the agency as required and as time and resources permit.
  • Provides crisis management, including assessing and providing appropriate responses, handling the situation calmly.

    Intake Specialty:
    This position is responsible for all aspects of the initial assessment of clients and their family situation for intake into the respective behavioral health program.
  • Conducts a comprehensive psychosocial assessment and makes treatment recommendations, summarizes primary presenting issues, identifies child/family strengths, and formulates a diagnosis based on this initial interview.
  • Reviews behavioral health documentation produced by BHT's and provides feedback to BHT staff when necessary.
  • Develops interim service plans that identify the next steps taken after intake by the provider and person/family, and what issues are to be addressed for ongoing assessment.
  • Provides effective crisis assessment including the following of program triage protocol, arranging for emergency psychiatric evaluation/hospitalization as indicated by protocol, provides for follow-up, normalizes situation, discusses options and handles situation calmly.
  • If no behavioral health problem exists, refers client to an appropriate community resource.
  • Performs duties with knowledge and skill in group processes, establishes group commitment to common goals, and establishes an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
  • Performs duties using knowledge and skill in assessment and diagnosis utilizing DSM-IV criteria.
  • Understands human development and family life cycle in children and families and demonstrates application of this knowledge in assessment and diagnosis.

    Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related* field of study from an accredited college or university (*such as Marriage and Family Therapy or Counseling)

    Minimum Qualification & Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age (licensing requirement).
  • Possess a valid Arizona driver's license and be insurable under the agency's automobile policy.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation for business related purposes
  • Must be able to provide DPS fingerprint clearance.
  • Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position.
