Reporting to the PR and Communications Director, the Patient Communications Manager is a key member of the Communications team, responsible for ensuring SCCA patients are kept appraised of critical updates and organizational priorities. Working closely with the PR and Communications Director, the Patient Communications Manager designs and executes communication channels for patients and makes sure they are informed about key initiatives and organizational announcements relevant to their treatment. These communication channels will be executed on digital and/or printed format.

  • Establish a patient communications strategy in conjunction with the PR and Communications director.
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of patient communications mediums, including monthly newsletters, flyers, letters and a variety of digital channels.
  • Engages subject matter experts to assess patient communication needs.
  • Manages requests to create FAQs and scripts for patient-facing staff in a variety of topics.
  • Leads and facilitates SCCA's patient communications group.
  • Advises the organization on best communication approach during disruption of services
  • Works with graphic designer to visually translate ideas and messages into creative content.
  • Liaise with Patient experience to incorporate patients' feedback across all patient communications.



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field
  • 7 years in media relations or corporate communications role
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - High level of proficiency
  • Strong work ethic, high performance expectations and a "can do" attitude.
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Emotional Intelligence - ability to manage one's own emotions and the emotions of others and apply them towards thinking and problem solving. Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and adapt quickly to changing business priorities.
  • Broad understanding and experience producing for and leveraging digital channels and social media including traditional (websites, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest) and emerging players.
  • Scientific experience and understanding of the not-for-profit space is a plus.


  • 5+ years of experience in patient communications in healthcare
  • Experience within a clinic or hospital setting including a portfolio and/or examples of work performed within communications
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-stress environments
  • Effective team player who can lead efforts across disciplines. Excellent interpersonal skills with positive attitude
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to be involved with both strategic development and tactical implementation
