Provides culturally sensitive support and training using program curriculum to assist at-risk women in early stages of pregnancy to heal from their own trauma and prepare to become mothers. Works collaboratively with the Family Support Services team to ensure quality, comprehensive care.  Reports to assigned manager or supervisor.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Establishes trusting, nurturing relationships with program participants and their families.
  • Provides regular home visits and contacts with participants to provide mental health support and healing through doula services, as well as information and resources to prepare the parent to become a mother and bond with her unborn child.
  • Presents and facilitates agency's community-based doula curriculum with participants to facilitate self-awareness, address current mental health challenges, develop methods to deal with stress, become empowered to become a mother and form a close bond with their unborn child(ren).
  • Completes assessments for new participants.
  • Assists participants to establish goals and create a plan to accomplish those goals.
  • In coordination with the participant and the Family Support team, creates a service plan for each participant.
  • Refers participants to community mental health providers and other resources, as needed.
  • Develops aftercare service plans with each participant, encouraging them to enroll in the Doula program and other appropriate continuing services prior to discharge.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all members of the team, referring agencies, and other community resources.
  • Completes case notes and other required documentation of services for each participant. May complete documentation and paperwork required for Medicaid billing.
  • Assists with community outreach efforts, targeting local mental health providers.
  • May attend births with or without the traditional Doula as requested by the mother.
  • May participate in the on-call system as back-up to traditional Doulas, as required by program.
  • Attends required trainings, including Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health training.
  • Collects, reviews and utilizes data and information on clients and services to inform program/department performance.
  • Participates in regular supervision and staff meetings as required by department.
  • May supervise an intern.
  • May transport client(s) as needed for program activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in social work or human service field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Doula training required; DONA preferred.
  • Must complete Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health training within 18 months of hire.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • At least two years of experience working with children and families required.
  • At least one year of doula experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills
  • Demonstrates intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft 365, Outlook, and client electronic health record and data systems.
  • Demonstrates respect and acceptance of diverse individuals and communities served by, working in partnership with or employed by Children's Home & Aid including but not limited to race, gender, ethnicity, social-economic status, and LGBTQ populations.
  • Must have valid driver's license and auto insurance when the position requires an employee to operate a motor vehicle in connection with executing the position's responsibilities, which include driving to and/or from any agency function


  • The applicant must submit to a criminal background check and a child abuse and neglect screening and maintain a cleared status throughout employment.
  • The applicant may be required to submit to and pass a TB and immunization health screen upon hire and update TB/physicals as required by licensing standards.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, reach, pull and lift to assist pregnant mothers to move to various positions.
  • Must be able to work all or part of a weekend and holiday hours if needed.
  • May have to remain past scheduled shift in times of emergency or client crisis.
