The Don Watson Academy is a state-approved special education day school that serves students 8-18 years of age with social emotional disabilities. The student enrollment averages between 25- 30 students, from the surrounding communities. The Mathematics Teacher (Special Education) leads the application of functional and academic Mathematics education within a therapeutic day school milieu, contributing as a key member of the educational team. The Mathematics Teacher will develop and oversee progress on content and skill-based goals and evaluate and articulate progress collaboratively with the team according to treatment planning and students' Individualized Education Programs.


  • Supports the policies and procedures of the Robert F. Kennedy Children's Action Corps.
  • Operates a classroom that meets the students' needs for safety, educational growth, and social/emotional development.
  • Evaluates students' specific educational needs in the area of Mathematics and develops educational plans and programs to meet those needs.
  • Produces an educational assessment in the area of Mathematics on each student (at 6 weeks) to be updated annually.
  • Assist in development of Individual Education Program goals with Lead Teacher for the area of Mathematics, as needed.
  • Provide classroom instruction necessary in order to help each student meet any Mathematics goals established in their Individualized Education Program as well as Mathematics curriculum goals for the Lancaster School Program and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Participate in TEAM, Treatment Team, and Medication Review Meetings that involve any of their classroom students, as needed.
  • Follow and actively participate in the implementation of the Behavior Management System (including the possibility of physical management).
  • Supervise and develop a team atmosphere with the teacher's assistant assigned to their classroom.
  • Follow all program security policies and procedures.
  • Attend and actively participate in Staff meetings and Professional Development Days
  • Actively participate in teacher team meeting and implement goals of the team.
  • Implement weekly scheduled supervision sessions for assigned teacher's assistant. 
  • Act as a positive adult role model with students and a positive team member with all RFK staff and outside collaterals.
  • Meet all program and Agency deadlines.
  • Participates in program and Agency events and projects.
  • Assumes other responsibilities necessary to ensure program safety and continuity.


    • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
    • MA teaching certification in Mathematics or Moderate Disabilities 
    • Valid Massachusetts driver's license required

    Schedule: 40 hours, Monday - Friday

    $1,500 Sign-On Incentive:

    This position is eligible for the Perkins/RFK Sign-On Incentive in the amount of $1,500 in your first year of employment. You will receive $250 after 3 months; $250 after 6 months; $500 after 9 months; and $500 after 12 months.
