Estimation/Electrical Engineer

As a key member of the Quotation Department and supporting the Outside Sales team, our Estimation and Application Engineer applies best practices to prepare quotes (RFQ) for the engineering projects related to Power distribution systems. The typical project involves electrical equipment center (EEC, PDC or PCR) complete with electromechanical items like medium voltage and Low Voltage switchgear, motor control Centers, bus duct, HVAC, VFDs, utility panels, DC systems, batteries, lighting etc. The Estimation and application Engineer is responsible for preparing quotes in a timely fashion and supports our outside sales team. Our Estimation and application Engineers actively work with customers, vendors, sales engineers, and engineering team during the quotation stage.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using active listing and verbal/ written skills with drawing and sketches to communicate effectively with customer on technical aspects, and product knowledge.
  • Gather additional information, work with customer and business development team to collaborate and provide better solutions.
  • Use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) to know and satisfy the customer.
  • Attend customer and vendor meetings, answer technical questions from customer or Outside sales team and complete required deliverables. Understand all parts of the larger project.
  • Create Bill of materials as per the customer specifications and requirement.
  • Prepare quotation documentation for the sales enquiry.
  • Review thoroughly Technical Specifications, Drawings and datasheets while preparing quotes. If necessary consult with engineering department before finalizing the technical terms for the project.
  • Utilizing ERP software for Bill of material, costing and pricing.
  • Use technical understanding of circuit design and electrical component functionality. Select project electrical components based on the project specific design requirements and company standards.
  • Communicate with Outside Sales, Vendors, and other internal departments with written instructions, and verbal instructions to maximize the accuracy of the quote.
  • List all deviations, clarifications in the quotes as needed.
  • Attend Kick off meeting for during the handover of the project to engineering after Purchase order is received.
  • Exercise discretion as to personal workload with general direction. Assume responsibility, plan and execute assigned tasks to meet expectations (cost, accuracy and on time submission of quotes)
  • Estimate Project schedule, delivery schedule.
  • Manage due dates for multiple quotes / tasks.
  • Knowledge of standards and codes like NEC, IBC, ANSI, IEEE, OSHA, NFPA, PIP, and IEC related with Power distribution and electrical equipment, PCR buildings.
. Requirements:

Skills and Qualities:

  • Knowledge of power systems and distribution related products.
  • Experience in preparing quotes for Complex Power distribution related projects, Power Control Rooms, PCR, EEC, PDC, Switchgear, Motor control will be added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer software like Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Mac. SKILL PREFERENCES
  • AutoCAD preferred but not necessary
  • Proficiency with electrical products designs and circuits.
  • Understanding Power systems application.
  • Familiar with Eaton, ABB, AB, Siemens & GE industrial products.
  • Understand; interpret technical specification drafted by customer.

Education and Experience:

  • (BS) in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 5+ years experience in electrical equipment or related field
