We are looking for candidates with knowledge and experience in Research & Development for an R&D Technician position that we have open at our production facility in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Position Description

The role of the R&D Technician is to control all new product that enters the facility, under the direction of the site Process Engineers, to ascertain the correct methodology required for each part, developing the process specification and work instructions ensuring that all potential safety concerns have been taken into consideration and all risks to employees are minimized. The Research & Development Technician is responsible for training employees before handing the product over and ensuring that employees are proficient in all facets of processing the new product. At all times the Research & Development Technician will maintain the highest safety and quality standards, while upholding the company values and focusing on the needs of our customers.

Essential Job Function

Lead each facility's engineering efforts from their inception to develop a range of products and processes by doing the following:

  • The assessment of incoming product utilizing Customer documentation.
  • Under the guidance of Process Engineers, set-up of new Process Specifications of new Qualification jobs in house for hands on processing.
  • Updating legacy processes specifications to current processes as needed.
  • Under the direction of Process Engineers, set-up Design of experiments (DOE) to establish Standard Operating Procedures / Specifications.
  • Enter critical manufacturing and cleaning data into shop floor control software program.
  • Follow company Operating Procedure for Planning and Product Realization procedures with new products entering the facility.
  • Track each new part qualification as a new Project.
  • Handle potentially hazardous materials, following appropriate EH&S rules and regulations along with the controls within the facility.
  • Have knowledge of reconditioning assemblies, including high vacuum, electrical test, load testing, data collection and data analysis.
  • Perform and participate in engineering tasks such as tooling/fixture design and use, design of experiments (DOE), systems performance testing and evaluations, statistical process control (SPC) and computer/electronic media implementation and transfer.
  • Continuously look for and develop critical improvements (e.g., improve part/process performance and prolong part life).
  • Recommend measures to improve EH&S performance, production methods, equipment performance and quality of product/service.
  • Interact with customers, where required to do so by the site Process Engineer and/or Production Manager.
  • Oversee the transfer of the projects to Operations as required.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in Research & Development is a prerequisite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and skills in database management and record keeping.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk; stand, or sit and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch, plus talk and hear.
  • Use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Work Environment:
  • Occasional exposure to airborne particles and/or moderate chemical fumes known to be toxic; personal protective equipment is provided.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to heavy and appropriate ear protection is provided.

Education & Experience

  • Engineering/Science certificate from an accredited college/university and 3-5 years' relevant experience, an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree with 1-3 years' relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree (BAS) with 0-2 years' experience.
  • Candidates with 2D/3D Modeling (AutoCAD / SolidWorks) or previous Chemistry cleaning experience as it pertains to semiconductor component refurbishment are strongly encouraged to apply
