Safety Coordinator

A Day in the Life

The Safety Coordinator for NRI Distribution will provide health and safety support to the organization and will ensure compliance with organizational, federal, provincial and local regulatory requirements. The position is to promote a positive safety culture and provide sustainable solutions to the organization. This role has primary responsibility to support the Kirkland QC, and Brampton ON locations and can be based in either of the facilities.

  • Effectively learn/use safety related database software (example: SaaS/Android Applications/Access).
  • Effectively learn/use hygiene/safety related equipment (example: gas detector, sound meter, light meter).
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personnel issues in the workplace.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and rapidly growing organization.
  • Work safely and in compliance with applicable legislation and organizational safety requirements.
  • Wear applicable PPE (steel-toe boots/reflective apparel) for extended periods of time; occasional lifting of items above 25lbs; climb stairs/ladders; and walk effectively in indoor/outdoor industrial work environments.
  • Occasionally work nights and/or weekends.
  • Ability for overnight travel across Canada (approximately up to 25%) majority of travel will be between home office location and other responsible facilities.

The Must Haves:

  • Degree, preferably in a safety/health sciences/engineering field
  • 2 years of experience in health & safety related field
  • CRSP (or equivalent) designation or willing to obtain (within 3 years)
  • Must be bilingual in English and French (read, write, speak)
  • Safety committee certification training or willing to obtain
  • Lives the NRI Leadership Principles

Things You Will be Doing

  • Research and stay abreast of applicable legislation, standards, industry best practices and determine how best to apply findings to the organization.
  • Develop, coordinate, and support administration of safety related training and orientation.
  • Accurately track and maintain safety related training schedules/documentation.
  • Coordinate and participate as an advisor to Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Participate in safety related audits and inspections.
  • Liaise with workers compensation agencies and coordinate work-related injury claims and return-to-work.
  • Liaise with applicable safety legislative authorities and coordinate corrective actions and follow-up.
  • Coach and assist managers/supervisors with safety related incident investigation and reporting.
  • Maintain contractor/visitor/vendor related safety programs.
  • Assist with maintaining the site emergency related programs and procedures.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain safety related programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate metrics to report to onsite Management teams, and organization-based reporting.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
