Maintenance Manager

General Purpose:

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing plant equipment, structures of buildings and grounds. Contributes to the cost effectiveness of plant operations through the planning, design, and management of capital projects; the initiation and design of equipment, processes, and building modifications; the resolution of equipment related process difficulties; and the supervision/coordination of maintenance department skilled trades and contractors by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties:

Responsibilities that are requirements in order to perform the job:

  • Establishing and supervising daily work of and providing technical assistance for the maintenance department
  • Coordination of maintenance and repairs for HVAC, refrigeration, and steam/condensate systems
  • Coordination of maintenance related contractors and service vendors
  • Analyzes and resolves processing equipment and plant facilities problems, assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Procurement of maintenance related consumables
  • Maximizing manufacturing efficiency through the troubleshooting and resolution of equipment breakdowns and related problems
  • Support the site specific quality certifications including ISO.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the primary duties, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based on business needs:

  • Identification of opportunities to improve plant and process efficiencies, Identification of needed investments in plant facilities and grounds
  • Justification and management of assigned capital projects
  • Coordination of the technical and practical aspects of engineering projects
  • Implementation of engineering controls to meet federal/state OSHA and state environmental safety regulations
  • Maintains and improves plant safety through the investigation, recommendation, and selection of processing equipment
  • Implementation of process equipment modifications, and building improvements
  • Control and documentation of periodic facility and process regulatory inspections
  • Provides training and safety related materials and equipment to the maintenance team
  • Reviews work practices and performance to maximize productivity and efficiency of the maintenance team
  • Maintains time and attendance records
  • Establishes and maintains effective 5S programs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Should have knowledge and functionality of commonly used software programs including, but not limited to Microsoft Office products, SAP, AutoCAD or Solidworks
  • Working knowledge and programming ability of PLC ladder logic such as Rockwell Automation preferred.
  • Federal, state and local regulations including OSHA, NFPA, NEC, EPA as applicable in a manufacturing environment.
  • General knowledge of machine shop equipment and functions including lathes, milling machines, band saws, hot work equipment, electrical meters, and general hand tools.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and troubleshooting/problem-solving skills

Education/Experience Guidelines:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical
  • Five or more years of related experience in a Plant Maintenance and/or Management in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered
  • Experience with Process Safety Management systems and Mechanical Integrity programs
  • Experience creating and maintaining a budget within area of responsibility
  • Experience adhering to environmental regulations and requirements, including RCRA and Title V
  • Experience with ISO9001, AS9100 or similar quality certification

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. On occasion, the employee will be exposed to wet/humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather, extreme heat/cold (non-weather), toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, working near moving mechanical parts, working in precarious places, and vibration.
