Development Staff Accountant

Responsible for reviewing and entering payables and maintaining job cost reports. This position works closely with the Controller and the Design Team to ensure projects remain within budget. Please note that while this is currently a remote position, there is a strong preference for someone located within (or willing to relocate to) 120 miles from Santa Barbara, CA.

Essential Functions:

Financial Reporting:

  • Manage Intercompany transaction reporting and reconciliations.
  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.

Month End Close:

  • Record payables including pay applications.
  • Ensure proper coding.
  • Maintain and track vendor budgets to actuals.
  • Record journal entries for payments made by intercompany transfers.
  • Assist with bank and credit card reconciliations and intercompany paybacks.
  • Work with BaseCamp accountant to ensure Monthly Fee invoices are billed timely.

  • Process outgoing wires.
  • Lead DMV registration process for new projects.
  • General accounting administrative tasks.
  • Special Projects as needed.


  • A passion for the great outdoors.
  • Be a MacGyver - an ability to resolve issues and come up with creative solutions using limited resources.
  • Real estate in development or construction experience preferred.
  • Advanced principles of arithmetic (percentages, fractions, and decimals).
  • Theory, practices, principles and terminology common to accounting and investments.
  • Computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Basic auditing principles.
  • Modern office methods, procedures and computer applications.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related studies and/or finance.
  • Two years' experience in real estate preferably in development or construction.
