Job Description
The Category Development Manager (CDM), will work closely with the Sr. CDM and cross functional teams in the development of category leadership stories focusing on driving overall category growth. Leveraging syndicated data, shopper and consumer insights, category and industry trends, CDMs will assist development of comprehensive category strategies enabling greater sell-thru and category share gains. This information will be utilized among the Business Unit, Field Sales and Category Management Teams to continuous improvement in building strategic influence and driving category growth and execution. Candidate will possess effective communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence cross-functionally within a matrix environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Category Management Expertise
  • Understand category purchase drivers, trip missions, shopper need states, etc. and liaise with BU Sales, Field Sales and Category Management on executional strategies
  • Participate in Customer meetings as the credible Category expert
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and immerse in insights on retail and shopper trends
  • Provide insight and perspective of the various channel dynamics on assigned categories (Category / Brand impact of reduced promotions in Hi Lo channels)
  • Form perspective on omnichannel purchasing behaviors (e.g. P2P, B&M, Grocery Pick-up, Ship to Home, etc.)
  • Understand how online purchase behaviors differ from those in-store and provide specific recommendations to capitalize on omnichannel purchase behavior


Reporting and Data Analytics
  • Ensure Data Providers category definition and product hierarchy align with K-C's structure
  • Translate complex metrics and analytics into valuable strategic insights that drive category growth and executional opportunities
  • Direct and perform analysis across a wide variety of category business issues and make fact-based recommendations


Category Analytics
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data (e.g. Shopper Research, POS, Loyalty card information, registry, etc.) into actionable insights
  • Utilize knowledge of shopper to recommend optimal category assortment, merchandising flows, adjacencies, cross merchandising opportunities, etc.
  • Lead efficient assortment work with customer teams enabling optimized SKU recommendations
  • Build in-store category innovation into all category leadership discussions (e.g. aisle reinvention, store of the future, disruptive merchandising strategies, etc.)


REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
  • Bachelor's degree (emphasis in business/marketing or related field) preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Category Management philosophies, tools, processes and proven record of success. Category Management Certification a plus
  • Strong familiarity with syndicated data, measures, and software (e.g. Nielsen, IRI, Consumer panel, Spectra, ECRM, or Market Track, etc.) and space management principles and software (e.g. JDA, Prospace, Spaceman, etc.)


EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience within CPG and / or Retail of consumer products (Category Management, Shopper Insights, Sales or related position)


DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO Perform analyses and design strategic business presentations tailored to inform and support AOP process. Integrate Omni channel insights, strategy and executional tactics within the Mega Category leadership work and Category Overviews. Analyze and interpret customer trends. Facilitate incorporation of business strategies and tactics. Keep team leader informed on status of plans and programs, changing conditions, requirements of marketplace, competitive activity, issues and accomplishments that may affect sales results. Contribute to achievement of business and personal objectives by seeking and responding to performance and developmental feedback. Initiate personal development activities to enhance functional effectiveness.
