Buyer/Planner

Primary Purpose of Position:

Responsible for timely placement of purchase orders from domestic and/or International suppliers.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Utilize MRP, customer POS data, and internal forecasts to plan Raw Material & Finished Goods purchases.


2. Maintain inventory on all products to support the forecasted demand/production.


3. Control total inventory amount to align with department objectives for dollar thresholds, and average days on hand targets.


4. Report on excess and obsolete inventory on a quarterly basis.


5. Proactively manage all open purchase orders with suppliers, ensuring the scheduled ship dates are met.


6. Process MRO requests for the Operations team.


7. Monitor supplier performance and communicate areas for improvement to suppliers.


8. Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself, of others, or to property. Defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation.


9. Requires regular attendance to perform essential element as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.


10. Performs such individual assignments as manager may direct.


11. Negotiate contracts and/or pricing with vendors.


12. Communicate with Accounts Payable as needed and resolve any issues in a timely fashion.


13. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience/Knowledge:

1-3 years purchasing experience preferred.

Must have the ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a corporate office and a manufacturing environment.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

Experience SAP, or similar ERP system, are preferred.

Six Sigma Blackbelt APICS, CIRM, CPM are highly desirable.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong organizational skills, detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Self motivated, flexible and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Must have superior oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Enthusiasm and a good positive, can-do problem solving and helpful attitude.

Willing to work in a fast, high-pressure work environment.


TECHNICAL ROLE COMPETENCIES:

Experience with SAP is desired. Excellent computer skills. Proficient with Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Sitting at workstation approximately 85 percent of work time. Standing and walking approximately 15 percent of work time.

Must be able to travel as needed.

Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces.
