Commercial Dock & Door Supervisor

Can you imagine yourself running your own business unit? If this is sounding like you, keep reading! This supervisor will be shaping and building a dock and door operation from the ground up.


The Commercial Dock and Door Supervisor is a working team leader who is both responsible for recruiting, hiring and training technicians as well as doing the technical work themselves. The initial focus of this role is to build a crew that can install and maintain commercial docks and doors so we become less reliant and eventually no longer need sub-contractors. Since this role is new to the organization, the summary laid out here is meant to set an overall expectation of this role with an understanding that the role will evolve.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

People Management

  • Recruit, manage, train, and motivate team while holding them accountable for meeting targets and objectives
  • Facilitate new employee onboarding
  • Mentor/coach support team and direct report staff
  • Ensure necessary trucks, equipment and supplies are available for dock and door workforce

Process Management

  • Working with Warehouse Solutions Team, create standard operating procedures for the Technician team, ensuring we remain OSHA compliant at all times
  • Work with Project Coordinator to order and purchase materials and ensure timely delivery
  • Work with Project Manager to schedule work and monitor progress
  • Assist in sales functions as requested
  • Conduct job site inspections for compliance with safety and environmental requirements, quality, budget and schedule. Take necessary action as required for conformance
  • Ensure the Company maintains positive client relationships, resolving concerns while providing excellent customer service

Technical

  • Work safely and follow all operational procedures at all times
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose faulty equipment
  • Install new equipment
  • Identify, order or make necessary parts to repair equipment
  • Perform necessary repairs to restore equipment to working condition
  • Complete work accurately and as promised to the customer
  • Test equipment to validate performance
  • Ensure work area is safe and clear of debris, tools and equipment, especially upon leaving
  • Drive safely and efficiently from one site to another across service area
  • Continuously learn and drives process improvements across the dock and door team

Customer Service

  • •Project a positive and professional appearance when interacting with customers, suppliers and TMHWS associates, while adhering to our values at all times
  • Communicate and work with the parts, service and sales departments to meet customer expectations
  • Immediately report any potential customer issues to ensure we maintain positive relationships
  • Collaborate as needed to resolve concerns while providing excellent customer service
  • Maintain a calm and tactful demeanor, even when dealing with difficult situations
. Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Required

  • 3+ years installing and maintaining docks and doors
  • 5+ years working in an industrial equipment, transportation or commercial dock/door business
  • Commitment to leadership, mentoring and personnel development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Must bring own collection of relevant tools (Work truck will be provided)

Desired

  • Technical certifications in welding, electrical, construction or other related industrial fields

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting/Standing/Walking

  • Approximately 15% is spent seated at a desk, working on the telephone or at a computer terminal
  • Approximately 85% is spent traveling in a car, bending, squatting, standing or moving about the work area in a variety of different temperatures and environments.

Speaking/Hearing

  • Ability to speak read and write English fluently
  • Clear diction, correct grammar and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with clients, vendors, management and other employees.

Vision

  • Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively work on close-up equipment troubleshooting and use computer screens.
