This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.


Reporting to the Research Director, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, the Research Manager fulfills a key leadership role in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, tracking and evaluating the Department's research programs and activities. These responsibilities include managing all aspects of administration and overall financial activities of the Department's research programs and activities within the Department as well as consulting with all members of the Department on academic processes and protocol preparation in accordance with university and hospital policies. The Research Manager will also assist in the identification and development of planning requirements for research, and contribute to Departmental strategic and operational planning.

  • Master's Degree preferred (MSc, MBA, MPA, MHSA or an equivalent an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be accepted
  • Formal management training/courses an asset
  • Minimum of two years experience in the relevant health profession
  • Minimum of three years experience in research
  • Clinical experience in Ophthalmology preferred 
  • Management experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Proficiency in specialized technology programs related to studies
  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication, coaching and teaching skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and rapport-building skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Casual, long assignment, full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Beginning August 2, 2021 with an expected end date of August 31, 2022

Salary Information

$37.1013 - $46.3765
