Lab Asst III

Job Overview:

Covance is hiring a Lab Asst III for our Histology Department (1st shift) 

 

Provides support to the laboratory testing area by performing clerical and technical support functions incompliance with appropriate SOPs and regulatory guidelines. Work as part of amotivate team-in a dynamic fast paced environment, which is characterized by flexibility, responsiveness and a strong commitment to meeting customer expectations. The incumbent is accountable for successful completion of all Lab Assistant tasks within the department.

 

  • Perform QC and maintenance of equipment and ensure QC logs are audit ready
  • Responsible for prioritizing/tracking workloads and/or special projects on a daily basis.
  • Performing database resulting of data, checks on paperwork, equipment and processes.
  • Provides assistance to technical staff as scheduled.
  • Seeks and promotes expertise in department and across sites to ensure consistent and professional approach to sample handling, documentation, verbal and email communications across departments. Seeks to works efficiently and well with other staff members across departments.
  • Serves as an expert in sample handling, sample acceptable and unacceptable criteria for samples
  • Introduces ideas and helps the group with the implementation. Is flexible and willing to take on additional tasks as set and where gaps are found consult with supervisor and take on those tasks.
  • Participates in team meetings and represents the department at all times in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Collects and orderly archives raw data at the end of each month and coordinates with the archiving department for collection and recall of any documentation to assist team or in audits
  • Scans all sample in SMART to the Histology outbox each day for SM collections. Coordinates SM collection and tracks completion and documentation for filing to show samples have been collected successfully.
  • Tracks and resolves sample holds, sample issues and issue resolution in a timely manner and documents accordingly. Ensure sample turn around times are met by preparing samples, tracking samples/pending test codes and resolution and providing samples for the technicians to work on quickly
  • Empty and keep good supply of biohazard bins in lab at all times
  • Keep good reagent and stock supplies in lab, order and replenish stocks and record inventory in the appropriate logs.
  • Tracks and resolves sample pending test codes. Requests samples or results worksheets.
  • Notifies supervisor of any workflow changes such as large batches or special projects so that workflow can be adjusted.
  • Must be willing to work some Saturday’s and overtime as needed to meet workflow

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilograms.

  • Experience in a similar position, or other experience in the laboratory.
