Clean & Grinding Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Supervision of the resources (manpower, equipment, materials etc.) of the Cleaning & Grinding department to achieve agreed upon performance levels with respect to job safety, quality, production, cost, housekeeping and delivery. Perform all duties within the department as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS:

1. Organizes work for smooth operation of the Cleaning & Grinding department through coordinating activities including:

  • Enforce procedures/practices to ensure a high level of consistency and quality in the castings delivered.
  • Order department supplies/parts and control costs by ensuring goods and supplies are utilized to limit and/or reduce waste.
  • Oversee and ensure department cleanliness (hoists, scales, etc.)

2. Perform Cleaning & Grinding department tasks as needed in the areas of casting cleaning/finishing, and inspection including:

  • Break off/Pick out
  • Casting inspection
  • Dumping hoppers.
  • Grinding Procedures and Techniques
  • Organization of castings
  • Maintain PM Process on Equipment
  • Order Supplies and Tools as required.
  • Operate forklift as needed

3. Monitor department performance for production, quality and safety standards. Immediately address issues as identified, or refer to Operations Manager, when appropriate, for resolution. Complete labor reports, including verifying that job-costing spreadsheet are done correctly, for each job that comes through the Grinding department.

4. Provide direction and leadership to department employees including immediate and consistent feedback on performance issues including attendance, safety violations, conduct on the job, etc. Record all attendance and safety violations. Conduct discipline meetings on performance issues and involve Direct Manager and HR as needed.

6. Responsible for training in and development of new production employees as well as cross training of current employees.

7. Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED.

• 2+ years “hands-on” production experience in a foundry finishing department preferred.

• Prior supervisory and leadership experience preferred.

• Knowledge of cut-off, grinding, blasting and inspection.

• Prior experience successfully working with ISO 9001 requirements.

• Knowledge of and experience with spreadsheets and Microsoft office products.

Physical Work Requirements:

Describe any physical and mental exertions including mobility, weight lifting, visual requirements, patient care handling, dexterity level of independent judgment and level of emotional stress such as dealing with emergencies.

This position involves regular bending and lifting; continuous standing for long periods of time; pushing, pulling, and carrying of heavy parts and machines.
