WHERE WILL I BE WORKING?

OMC has three (3) locations throughout Central Virginia. Most positions will be at the corporate offices at our Orange, VA location. We also have store locations in Madison, VA, Louisa, VA and a pump station in Charlottesville, VA.

  • This position will primarily be located at our Orange facility with travel expected to our Louisa agronomy facility on a frequent basis.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

This position will be tasked with the following key objectives:

  • Collaborate with OMC leadership and management team to develop strategies and implementation for achieving daily/weekly/monthly sales and/or production goals
  • Overseeing all fertilizer plant operations, customer deliveries and custom application functions
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the agronomy merchandise and services and train and develop the team to serve as expertise in the field
    • Help coach team members to recommend best solutions and products to overcome their agronomy challenges
  • Build trusting and long-lasting relationships with our customers; help connect them to our quality services by in term building relationships with our merchandise and service vendors
  • Help lead the inventory of merchandise process at the agronomy facilities; maintaining optimum quantities of products and supplies and also working with management to implement new product introductions, discounts and more.
  • Oversee the maintenance programs for equipment, always keeping the agronomy fleet ready to serve our customers and provide your team a safe and comfortable environment to work within
  • Maintain a clean, safe facility to meet OSHA and EPA regulations and OMC Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Standards; be the leader of the team to keep up with housekeeping, safety meetings, PPE, etc.

Some positions will have the following work environment qualities.

  • This position will work both within a indoor office setting, but will also be responsible for working outdoors at customer locations and within the Orange and Louisa agronomy mill
  • Extended hours and alternate work schedules may be required based on business needs, especially during seasonal peaks

Qualifications - REQUIRED

A combination of completed coursework OR degree completion and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of years of experience required.

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in agriculture, plant science, petroleum, livestock / pet care, transportation, or a similar industry, with specialized knowledge of related merchandise and services
  • Requires demonstrated leadership ability
  • Requires valid Driver's License

Qualifications – PREFERRED

  • Bachelor's Degree: will also consider an Associate's Degree from select programs with specialization in agronomy, plant science, animal science, business management or a related field of study
  • More than five (5) years of work experience in agriculture, plant science, livestock, or a similar industry, with specialized knowledge of related merchandise and services
  • Specifically industry experience in agronomy is preferred
  • Licensing & Certification: Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain) and CDL / Hazmat endorsement (or ability to obtain) and CCA (or ability to obtain)

A successful individual in this position will be able to successfully perform the following responsibilities or be able to develop and demonstrate the following capabilities in a reasonable timeframe upon joining the team:

  • Obtain specialized knowledge to accurately advise customers and recommend merchandise and/or services in one or more of the following areas: equine, livestock, pet, home, lawn & garden, farming operations, crop protectants, fertilizers, petroleum products, propane, and/or related line of business
  • Able to effectively apply knowledge of daily operations for assigned department(s)

Work Environment

The work environment will vary based on location. Essential job functions are performed indoors in a climate controlled environment, in a warehouse environment subject to seasonal temperatures and humidity, and outdoors unprotected from weather conditions.

Regularly exposed to hazards including:

  • Merchandise, supplies and tools with sharp edges or containing hazardous materials
  • Dust, odors, fumes and hazardous chemicals associated with sales and storage of various fuels, dry and liquid fertilizers, crop protectants, plant material, and other agricultural, residential, animal care and home care products
  • Moving mechanical parts and vehicles, vibrations and electric current
  • Draughts, temperature changes and wet floors due to facility doors opening during adverse weather
  • Noise levels where hearing protection is optional per PPE Plan

Must be able to speak to co-workers and customers regarding sales, operations and safety. Must be able to hear customer service phone calls, hand held radio, equipment and vehicle sounds.
