Material Control & Logistics Strategic Project Manager

Functional Overview:

The objective of the Material Control & Logistics Strategic Project Manager is to create a structure to drive process standardization, process improvements, and new technology and systems, along with developing our people by utilizing the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Methodology to be World Class.  In addition, the alignment with developing and executing new systems and tools to support the materials organization and business partners.   


Job Responsibilities: 

  • The position will report directly to Central Manufacturing Material Control & Logistics Director 
  • Located at North American Region Headquarters (NAR HQ)
  • Implement process standardization, tools, systems, etc. and central team’s strategy across plants; align strategy and objectives with business partners  
  • Liaison with Categories, Procurement, Technology, Finance, Production Scheduling, People Development, etc
  • A heavy emphasis on Global Information Systems (GIS) for system development and enhancements
  • Responsible for the oversight of the MCL projects, packaging, systems, and tools 
  • Act as Liaison between Manufacturing Operations Excellence, Finance, GIS, Procurement and Demand Planning, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), etc 
  • Adherence to policies and procedures of Inventory Management (internal and external controls), and inventory processes, safety stock tools, etc
  • Manage MCL scorecard and associated targets, reviews, with the operations teams
  • Accountable for central packaging lead with plant engineers for Orbis Returnable Packaging processes, containers and manage Orbis Returnable Vendor Packaging (RVP) provider, to optimize total cost and to maintain inventory targets that support our ability to deliver the promise to our customers
  • Accountability for the successful development and implementation of strategies for NAR tools and processes, e.g., Ariba SAP Phase 3 Transportation and Inventory Visibility, Neptune PC Portal, Lodestar R3 Scheduling, and R4 Electronic Kanban
  • Utilize the WCM Methodology and Application to drive material flow, packaging optimization, controlled material flows, and cost reductions with the Logistics and Customer Service (LCS) and Workplace Organization (WO) pillar teams to align on projects and support
  • Serve as a point of contact for cross-functional partners - both internal to Whirlpool and external
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement efforts through involvement in the strategic materials management planning process and the execution of activities defined in that process
  • Prioritizes and organizes short term and long term goals and activities in accordance with business objectives
  • Ensure strict adherence to all Whirlpool manufacturing standards/methods
  • Live the Whirlpool Leadership Model and drive it within your team
  • Addresses opportunities for improvement relative to Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery metrics and talent development
  • Travel 30%


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, or Business
  • 5+ years of Leadership experience in a Supply Chain/ Materials focused,  Manufacturing Environment
  • Experience with World Class Manufacturing (WCM) & Lean methodology
  • Experience in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and  SAP systems
  • Experience with Inventory Control Management
